Electrical Fault Malfunction

Featured Replies

Hello

Yesterday had a major problem with the A7.  Electrical system fault yellow warnng came up, before it turned red and its killed the engine and everything else.

Can anyone advise if this is a known problem as been reading theres a lawsuit against Audi in the USA.

Urgently need some advise and guidance please as the cost to repair could be massive.

Thank you. H

Yes initial diagnostic check by a mechanic friend said it the alternator.  A proper diagnositic person due to check it next week, with the aim of initially saving the 42/44volt battery as that replacement could be approx £4k!  He will also check for software updates and if any outstanding which should have been done by Audi direct.

New alternator looking at £3k for parts and labour, the part is a horrible £1400-1700 roughly.

Been trying to do more research on the matter in the USA (attached) plus anything else relevant to the UK.

Having spoke to the garage mechanic and a rescue towing service, they both informed me that they have seen plenty of these problems, its something that is happening due to the battery system not being suitable or is overly complicated.

So...can all Audi owners please check you are not due for a software update in the first instance, plus check what type of system you have to ensure you do whatever necessary to protect against major damage.  Please do not get into the mess im about to face.

Regards

Hardip

Look though this forum and you will find dozens of owners facing the same problem. Few have had a satisfacory resolution.

Afternoon all...update:

Audi dealership local to me, they  hecked the car via the 150 pound check, which im hoping i do not have to pay for, but they confirmed the alternator is covered under the 7 year extended warranty!

However, i have asked a load of questions re copy of the full detailed warranty, full car checks on all systems to ensure its working fully and correctly, asked for detailed report of the problem and why it occured, check on full software update as necessary, full report that all systems working correctly with their checklist, duration of new alternator warranty, is hybrid battery system working properly and was there any damage, what reassurance problem wont happen again, etc etc.

I will gather all informstion as answers come forward. Also, unanswered queries i will write a letter to chase down from Audi UK.

Give me some time to draft stuff up, if theres anything you would like me to include in the letter, please let me know.

Im grateful my local audi accepted this problem and will resolve, but still want to help out anyone else with ongoing issues and even retrospective claims. If Audi know theres a problem, they should be paying for it. Time they put customer experience and satisfaction 2nd to their main objective of sales.

Regards

Hardip
