Fuel Efficiency

Picked up my 9th Audi on 1st March. This time it was an A6 2:00 TDI Avant multitronic with the 177 bhp engine. My last was a TT Coupe 2:00 TDI Quattro. The fuel consumption figures for that were around 66 Extra Urban and 57 combined. It regularly returned High 50s and would do 62/63 on a long run @ 60 mph with the cruise control.

Took the A6 from York to Birmingham and back at the week end. Steady 60 mph both ways with the cruise control. Fuel consumption was only 43 mpg despite the figures quoted by Audi being 62 Extra Urban and 55 combined?

What are other users experiencing with their 2:00 A6's ?

The car needs at least 4000 miles to start returning its best fuel economy, ideally 10000.  The engine and multitronic gearbox still have plenty of wearing in to do before you will see the best out of them.

Very few cars manage anything close to the quoted fuel consumption figures, as these are obtained in a sterile environment on a rolling road without wind resistance, with no air conditioning compressor connected, very light alternator load etc.  Cold days like present also worsen the consumption as the air is more dense and causes more aerodynamic drag.
