Hi all new to this site so may be a question asked a few times but here we go. Looking at getting front and rear dash cams for my Audi Q5, genuine are very expensive so any recommendations would be greatfully received.

Have had Nextbase front and back cams for quite a while on our previous car, always worked a treat although luckily never had to call on them for evidence.

Very easy to install as long as you can get to the fuse box.

Have opted for the Audi kit on our new buggy as I didn't fancy trying to force wires behind the roof and pillar lining.

If you fit it yourself, I found one of those plastic tools for scraping a freezer clean worked wonders to push the wires securely in.

We removed the Nextbase before trading the car in, it will no doubt be on e bay shortly.

Had Nextbase cameras like the guys above, the 422 and 512, they were OK but the batteries were done in less than 2 years.

4K front and 1080p rear, no batteries to ware out, can be hardwired or not, and (so far) has worked flawlessly. Even the software updates are nice and easy, plus the footage compared to my older Nextbase cams is a lot better.

Has anyone had problems with the wiring to the rear camera causing interference with the DAB aerial?

I haven't fitted my rear camera yet to my '22 A4 but had real problems with the interference in my Skoda Kodiaq. I fitted a lot of ferous cores along the cable but it had little to no effect.

I believe the DAB aerial for the A4 is on the rear screen which could be a problem. I would expect to route it along the passenger side roof lining and over the B and C pillars. 

Any suggestions or experiences of this?

 

 

Is there a method to get power from the mirror using an adaptor, I have seen several clips on YouTube but didn't know if anyone had tried on a Audi?

Hi I believe that it needs to be wired to a Fuse box. But I'm not a sparky so better to ask

 

The passenger footwear fuse box (RHD) is helpful separated in to live and switched fuse banks. There are loads of switched live options free but from my experience, the hardwire kit I got from NextBase had a 'large' piggy back fuse kit. The switched live fuse bank are all 'small' fuses. I chatted up my local Halfords person person and got the small fuse adapter which works perfectly. 

As above, I've previously had a problem with the rear camera affecting the DAB signal so I ran the cables through the handles on the headlining as a test for a few days. Didn't seem to have much effect so I've now got the cable in through the A/B pillars ready to take the boot lining out and fit to the rear window properly. 

If anyone is looking for a solution below is the link, I might give it a go as I don't like taking panels off.

I routed my hardwire kit on the wrong side of the air bag so need to go back in the nearside A pillar and move it very soon. When I do I'll take a video of the route and the fuse box. It's pretty easy with a hardwire kit and straight to the fuse box and overall might be less fuss than trying to get power from the mirror set up.
