Heisenberg01 Posted May 26 Posted May 26 I recently purchased a Q2 2018 Auto 2.0 diesel. I've never owned/ driven an auto before, so this could be down to expectations but I'm not impressed and believe it could be faulty. My concerns are, first gear it takes a long (longer than my expectations)time to change to second, just over 2000 rpm. When it changes to 2nd the rev counter drops significantly to below 1000 rpm and again builds up ( slowly in my opinion) to over 2000 rpm then changes to 3rd. When in 4th when accelerating there is a "pulsating" I can feel through the wheel, when it goes to five it stops. If I floor it changes in gear are "jerky" and occasionally the engine is juddering before gear change. I've never driven an auto like I said, but I expected drive to be smooth and it's really not, but like I say could be down to me. Any comments, advice on driving etc? It's full history, had gearbox serviced 2 years ago,55k on clock I'm going to call the garage this week and have a word, just don't want to conry across a numpty.,as a guy at work who has an auto Evoque has driven mine and said it seems fine to him. On motorway it's fine at high speed, smooth as anything. Comments welcome.
cliffcoggin Posted May 26 Posted May 26 2000 rpm seems high for changing up, but that depends on how heavy your right foot is, and whether you use S or D mode. It would be as well to have it independently tested before the 30 day option to return it to the dealer expires. 1
cliffcoggin Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Sport or Drive (normal) mode. I assumed you have that option on your gearbox, but perhaps you don't.
Heisenberg01 Posted May 27 Author Posted May 27 AHH, I have drive select, when I picked it up it was in "dynamic" I haven't changed it.
cliffcoggin Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Try the different gearbox modes and let us know how they compare.
Heisenberg01 Posted May 27 Author Posted May 27 Just been on a short run, second still not changing to 3rd untill 2000+ but not experienced the pulsating in 4th. I'm currently on the "auto" setting. Going out soon will try the efficiency modem
Heisenberg01 Posted May 27 Author Posted May 27 It's not right. Juddering, pulsating etc, fine from 5,th gear onwards Isn't there some way of resetting the gearbox?
cliffcoggin Posted May 27 Posted May 27 No, the car is faulty and is likely to be an expensive repair. Take it back to the dealer before the 30 day limit expires.
Heisenberg01 Posted May 27 Author Posted May 27 Gonna get it checked by a VW specialist first, the dealer will likely try to bodge/cover it up etc. I'm sure a pro will just drive it for 5 mins to see the issues. I'm kicking myself, British roads so bumpy I couldn't tell in the test drive so many potholes I want to be armed when I go back, main dealer I got it from,17k with warranty. 4 minutes ago, cliffcoggin said: No, the car is faulty and is likely to be an expensive repair. spartacus 68 Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Take it back. Transmission issues rarely resolve themselves. Assuming this is 7-speed S tronic. It needs serviced every 38k miles. If gearbox was serviced, I’d want written notification of that. It could be a firmware issue of course, so would need need a scan to check what’s what, but first thing the dealer is likely to do is drop the oil, new filter, etc. If there any contamination in the gearbox, then that’s on them. 1
Heisenberg01 Posted May 30 Author Posted May 30 Just had the car in the garage. Gears/clutch slipping confirmed, oddly no codes re transmission but several other codes, P010400 mass volume air flow intermittent P154B00 dpf sensor faulty P003100 P068B00 A few other o2 sensor etc. Mechanic said first thing he would do is change the oil, after that full inspection and probably clutch or gearbox replacement. How difficult is it to return a car for refund? I've had it ,8 days and it's a main dealer??
cliffcoggin Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Take it back to the dealer with your mechanic's report. The dealer will undoubtedly try to dismiss your problems with all sorts of excuses, but stand your ground and insist on either a refund or a full repair. It's your legal right.
Heisenberg01 Posted yesterday at 12:18 PM Author Posted yesterday at 12:18 PM Update. Car went back to main dealer, ( not Audi) and "they" couldn't fix it,advised had to go to Audi with a 6 week wait time. Rejected the car, and went for a similar car they had in stock, but with manual box. Took a few weeks but had courtesy car, all in All can't complain how they handled the situation.
cliffcoggin Posted yesterday at 01:06 PM Posted yesterday at 01:06 PM That's very good news. Compliments to the dealer for accepting the situation, though frankly he should have noticed the problem before putting it on sale.

Glad you got sorted. Thanks for updating us.

Yeah, I raised it with the sales manager who showed me a 150 point pre sale check etc, the only thing I can think of is I'm pretty sure it was almost ok from cold and worse when up to temp, maybe this is why it got missed.
