EdA4 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 When I bought the car the driver's door would unlock remotely, but not the passenger door. After a few days the driver's door packed up too. I changed the passenger door module for one from a breaker, which worked half-a-dozen times, then stopped. I exchanged it for another, which didn't work at all. I swapped the driver's door one, and this didn't work either, so I exchanged it, and again the replacement didn't work. Also the key operated window lift which has worked up to now stopped working! I'm wondering if I've been unlucky with 2nd hand units, whether I've been given the wrong parts, or whether there's something else going on. As far as I can tell the door control modules are all part number 4F095979 and then 2 for NSF, 3 for OSF, and 4/5 for the rear doors, but people list them differently. Also there's a range of suffix letters, I've come across P, E, T & C so far. Can anyone tell me what part numbers I should be looking for, and suggest any explanation for my lack of success? On the +ve side, I'm getting pretty slick at taking the door cards off! Thanks
cliffcoggin Posted June 28 Posted June 28 A common problem is breakage of the wires in the rubber bellows between door and frame.
Steve Q Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Also have you done any diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up?
EdA4 Posted Tuesday at 10:39 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 10:39 PM Well nobody has responded to my inquiry about part numbers for the control module, so didn't think a response was needed, and I think the moderators response is a bit OTT. FYI an auto electrician suggested that the problem isn't the modules but the latch mechanism itself. He tells me that there is a nylon cam/lever which unlocks the latch which breaks off. I've bought new latches but had a problem removing the N/S one: its secured by two bolts which I took to be Torx 40, but the teeth stripped and on closer inspection I discover that its a 12 pointed socket, rather than a 6 pointed Torx. Don't know what these are called but I've ordered a set & will have a go at the OS lock. If I'm successful then I'll go back to the N/S one, the bolt will have to be drilled out, or split and cut off.
EdA4 Posted Tuesday at 10:45 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 10:45 PM And, by the way, all the Forum responses including Clifford's final query ended up in my junk folder, which is why I hadn't responded. "Post and Run" is a bit overdramatic!
cliffcoggin Posted Wednesday at 12:24 PM Posted Wednesday at 12:24 PM Changing the latches sounds like a lot of work for something that may not solve the fault. Have you dismissed the earlier suggestions regarding the fault? As for the warning being OTT, see the green banner towards the top of each main forum page addressed to new members. It's strange that some people have excuses for not seeing forum responses but always see warnings. If your problem warranted the effort to write a question, surely it deserves as much effort to look for replies.
