DPF Filter light came on

Featured Replies

Brilliant buddy I really appreciate that info 👍  I'll get on that as soon as soon as possible and check it. I've o ly got an OBD eleven reader but should show me the values.

When i had the dpf changed they changed the temp sensor as it snapped off and I said to check the others and replace if needed.

When it failed they plugged it in again and I asked about FPF pressure sensor and to test it and they said 1% is normal. I took it as truthly as possible as they work on DPF all day every day but now I'll question it. I'm not too clued up on the parameters of the DPF etc so much appreciated.

Not going to lie this has drove me insane for 3 months and cost me 1000's so if its just  case of a sensor change I'll be annoyed but happy at the same time. 6 garages and so called specialists unable to sort it so fingers crossed this us it. Much appreciated again 🍺

Apologies for the delay in replying - getting back up to speed after a September holiday...

I picked up the convertible from Norwich Audi, paid my (not inconsiderable) bill, and set off home. As soon as I got on the A47, there was a muted backfire and the check engine light came on, the glow plug light started flashing, and the car went into limp home mode... spacer.png

I was back at the dealer in a few minutes - I was pretty sure a turbo hose had popped off. One of the techs stayed past his finish time to confirm the diagnosis, and re-fit the hose.

Since then, it has been driving beautifully. I've been trying to use it as my primary transport, in order to test the work. I've done about 400 miles so far, and it has been faultless.

I'm tentatively going to say it has cured the snag...

I'll post again if there are any further developments.

Standard - the OEM one. The aftermarket one I had fitted was an Amazon special - and it was a fairly generic profile, as it was suitable for a whole slew of 1.9 and 2.0 VAG diesels. The chaps at CAT Automotive said the BPW engine is notoriously finicky, hence the DPF issue.

Well changed the thermostat and EGT sensor as i found it be glued together !

Happy to report thr DPF regeneration kicked in and seems good but the original issue is still here.

Still struggling to start and loss of power u der 1500rpm and struggles getting revs up.

Going back to thr drawing board. When i unplug the MAP sensor it starts first go but in limp mode.

Ive chnaged the EGR but now  thinking about the cooler. Ive topped up coolant a few times maybe 1 litre over a few months. No visible smoke from exhaust though.

Only reason i say this is that when i removed the intake manifold it was full.of tar like crud so could this be a sign ?

I noticed its build up again after only a few hundred miles since ive cleaned it. The EGR valve which is new was also starting to block up with soot yet this was dry. Any input greatly appreciated.

Hi the problem is the EGR is before the throttle body but superseded by the PCV system which sucks oil and water vapour out of the crankcase and tries to burn it, could be the PCV diaphragm is failing and allowing too much through, in saying that if you disconnect the Ma and it runs better thats a sign of a failing Maf.

Exhaust gas temperature sensor there are normally two one before the cat and one after, both sensors have to tally up on reading whilst running if either is knackered it wont initiate a regen because it thinks the exhaust gas is not hot enough, I have had some EGTs that have been registering - 70 which means they are screwed, generally speaking 1psi sounds wrong as a new unit will measure at least 6-7 psi maybe more according to the amount of soot/ash in the DPF, I have always considered it best practise to replace any sensors to do with a DPF replacement as they all wear as a set, it must work as most of the cars I have worked on have never again had DPF issues in the last two years, monitor the EGTs on live data and when the car is raved the temps should climb rapidly, if your engine is Euro 4 you will only have one EGT, happy days.

Ive changed the egr valve and cleaned the throttle body which is afterwards. The  take manifold was full of gunk. Ill check the pcv tomorrow. Is there a way of testing it ? Ive changed the fuel filter but im going to check the fuel pump as well. Im no mechanic but im guessing the ru ning issues could be air/fuel mixture.

Hi remove the pipe at the PCV then run the engine if there is an excessive amount of oil/gas coming out the diaphragm has failed, run it for at least five mins. is the MAF the original unit as if that is failing it will cause lot of your problems.

Hi its universally accepted that most of the ECP parts are rubbish, I bought an NTK Maf f rom them and had nothing but trouble with the replacement and the original, found out later that the car was not accepting the adaptation of the new units, bought a Bosch unit and that adapted straight away, 20k later you could see where the extra money went, if you unplug the Mac and it runs better its definitely the Maf dying.

Steve.

Well ive cleaned my old one so will try thay and them get a genuine one if that doesnt work. Ive heard a lot of peoel say the same. I guess electronics is a no go from Euro. Live and learn i guess.

If still dubious to it being MAF but its defo with another go. I do think its an air/,fuel mixture problem. Ive git another so called specialist looming at it Monday so will keep you posted

Anyone in Shropshire area have Vagcom? Or anyone recommend someone who could look at this dam thing ! Im at my wits end ! Checked everything advised and still no joy. If i cant get it running by December it will be scrapped which is a shame as only 130k and i solid motor. Spent 1000's in the last 12months.  Every gatage is using generic readers etc ive got obd 11 but om hoping Vag com can find the answers. Im 99% its fuel air mixture. Thanks

Just an update on the issue. It may help anyone in the same situation. Problem resolved after a long 5 months of changing out parts and chasing the fault. It was the temperature sensor before turbo on exhaust manifold. Swapped it out for a darkside development one and fired back to life. Still early days so will test it for a month or two and report back. Again no fault codes showed at all and all.live data seemed ok apart from thatvone sensor started showing 1000degrees when cold. Hope this helps anyone else in need. Thanks for all the advice etc 👍

OBD eleven is what ive been using. Its been to multiple garages and had no joy. Spent a few days going through all the data etc and found that it was reading 1000. Its been a long hard time resolving it but fingers crossed its sorted now.

Problem i had was every garage would plug it in see no faults and send me my way. Even very reputable companies couldn't fix it or wasnt interested in spending the time to resolve it.  Shame really.  I had one so called "Audi Master Technician " tell me it was the head warped, needed all new injectors, cam belt water pump at a cost of 2000! He said these BRD engines are !Removed! and heads fail hence none on the road he had it plugged in for 10 mins and decided this ! Glad i walked away but some unlucky people would pay the price !

Once im 100% its fixed im going to do an in depth thread about it and what ive done and what to look for. Ive saw so many people have the same or similar issues so hoping to help them with what ive learnt on this as alot of the symptons i had could result in other mis diagnosed issues.
