Oldnbald65 Posted Thursday at 10:40 PM Posted Thursday at 10:40 PM Hi I want to go through this new fsi upgrade / replace common weak items. One item I have seen is a death pipe that's either stainless or alloy Does anyone know where I can get one of is it a case of getting one made. Greatful for any help😁👍
Magnet Posted yesterday at 07:54 AM Posted yesterday at 07:54 AM Sorry Richard, I have no idea what you are talking about. Regards, Gareth. p.s. You aren’t Gerald off Clarkson’s Farm are you? Think he’s from your neck of the woods.
Oldnbald65 Posted 23 hours ago Author Posted 23 hours ago No nobody famous I can drive a tractor though. The death pipe as many call it due to it killing the engine when it fails is a plastic pipe that runs from the back of the water pump up to the thermostat. The FSI runs hotter than other vw/audi with same pipe I have seen in the past people have upgraded it to one made of stainless steel just struggling to find one
Oldnbald65 Posted 23 hours ago Author Posted 23 hours ago I see you have the A3 Its the A2 that runs hotter I dont think the A3's and Golfs ect suffer the same
cliffcoggin Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I have never heard of this problem until reading of it here. If the failure is because the pipe is plastic maybe you should have one fabricated in rubber.
Oldnbald65 Posted 16 hours ago Author Posted 16 hours ago Audi number is 032121065b If you want to google it. Its a pain of a job to do so only want to do it once hence the metal one if I can find one, Have a good weekend,
Steve Q Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Well every day is a school day. Never heard of this issue before.
cliffcoggin Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago "Death pipe" is the sort of term I expect from America where everything is exaggerated to make a minor problem seem major. For goodness sake, it's only a leaking coolant pipe. It happens on all cars.

Oldnbald65 Posted 13 hours ago Author Posted 13 hours ago Hey don't shoot me down!! Death pipe is what the the bunch over on the A2 owners club and other sites call it (Not me) I assumed you all called it that I'm new to the A2 FSI just looking for help and advice please don't jump on me with For goodness sake it's only leaking coolant pipe!! That's not much help to me or anyone else
spartacus 68 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) The A2OC are fairly evangelical bunch, and rightly so considering the last A2 rolled off the production line in 2005. We used to have a 1.4 TDI. Great cars but a little unrefined, but they were ahead of their time. Audi hated them at the time, especially main dealers as it didn’t fit the mould of the car range at the time. Back to this pipe. It reminds me of my brother’s Jeep Grand Cherokee. In his case it’s in the valley of a V6 diesel and the only way to fix is to dismantle half the engine. I think some owners resorted to changing the pipe to a more robust design as it’s a known weak point. I think your best bet is go back to A2OC as this is very niche. There must be lots of owners still about and have a wealth of knowledge on the fix. I hope you get it fixed. Edited 3 hours ago by spartacus 68
Oldnbald65 Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago Thanks the mgzt v6 is another they have a pipe and thermostat housing available in alloy. All down to cost at the end of the day in our throw away society. I have an engineer that makes me bits once in a while will maybe send him a plastic one to see what he thinks 1
