Start/stop shudder on startup even with mild hybrid

Featured Replies

I own a 2022 A4 tfsi with mild hybrid. Car is incredibly smooth including engine restarts when on the move, but when stationary a restart after a period of engine shutdown is really rough. I thought the mild hybrid was supposed to make auto restarts smooth?

If the car is still under warranty it's probably worth having it in at Audi for a diagnostic check.

Thanks Steve Q :).  What I'm interested in is whether my car is unusual - any other B9 owners out there who can confirm?

Hi Stephen

I just purchased a 2022 A4 35tfsi MHEV and have also noticed a slight judder/ shake intermttently upon start up/ when in PARK for a few secs. I usually feel mine on start up when the revs fall below 100RPM when the car is 'ready'.

Is this the same issue that you are experiencing.

Thanks mo zak.  Mine is consistent - every time I start up the shudder is noticable. I wouldn't think anything of it except I have experienced a Volvo mild hybrid which was completely shudder free when starting up from cold.  So I'm expecting the answer is that this is just what the Audi is like. It's basically like every other car I have ever started up - so no issue at all. What I find odd is that the car seems capable of starting without any feeling at all when on the move, but maybe it is there, it's just that because I am moving I don't notice it.

A simple thing would be to sit in another A4 and start it up.  It will probably be exactly like mine!
