S5 sportback 2025, tailgate issues.

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I’m new to Audi and also new to this forum. I’ve recently purchased a 2025 S5 sport back very pleased it’s a fantastic Car, however I have had a had an issue with the sport back tailgate since picking it up from the Garage . It doesn’t matter which method i used to opening it. (on the key fob , on the drivers door button or the button  on the tailgate itself) It only opens a couple of inches after one or two press of the buttons , so I’m having to press it 3,4 or 5 times or opening it manually. been told by the Audi Garage that it is a software issue and will be resolved with an update in a couple of weeks or maybe a couple of months and it’s possibly the same on all S5 or A5 of the same year.
I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar issues or been told the same thing by their Audi dealer as it’s a fantastic car and I’ve had a fantastic service from the Garage. It’s my first Audi I’ve ever owned and hope it will be resolved and not the start of other or more issues.
Any advice would be greatly received and likewise if I can assist anyone else, I will certainly do that.

Many thanks for your reply. It has left me with very much that feeling which is not a good experience. Will be taking advice on the matter and asking for something in writing to say the work will be fixed.

Thanks for your comment. Sounds like you’ve had a bad experience with Audi , i’m used to having a bit more confidence and customer care with previous garages.

Not sure I would demand a refund, but you want something confirmed as to when it’s going to be fixed. A couple of weeks or a couple of months is unacceptable. The car is well within warranty period, so main dealer should provide some sort of reassurance. I take it they’ve scanned the car for error codes and done relearn process as part of fault find.

Many thanks for your constructive reply. I’ve had email from the Garage stating they’re going to forward the message from Audi UK there’s just no time frame on the next  update.

I shall update you with progress in case anyone else is having similar issues.

Not all. I have bought all my cars privately and secondhand based solely on my own judgement. However the history on this forum shows that dealers will prevaricate as much as possible when it comes to defective new cars, and need the threat of hitting their wallets to make them take notice.

Hi, As the car is a 2025 model , warranty will be in place for 3 years ,since date of first registration. Plenty of time to sort the issue.

Appreciate your advice and agree you should always be aware, that you are not always told the truth.

Are you sure the tailgate has not been set to a limited opening hight? Can be set so does not hit garage roofs etc. If it were a SW fault then it should be seen on many more of the same base model A/S5 Sportback as there will be no difference in that segment of body control module.

I have the S5 Avant (2025) and also waiting for a SW update for a rear diff issue. It can seem like they are stalling for time. The main problem is that the model is a brand new design- unproven and not fully real world tested by the best test department  - the wider spread public owners. Only us Beta testers, over time, will find the edge cases in what are relatively minor issues in build and programming.

Hi, many thanks for your reply. Just to update you. It has been in to Ade and the issue is now fixed. They’ve deleted some phone codes and it seemed to resolve the issue.
I’m very pleased with the car as a whole it’s got a lot of settings which I haven’t looked into yet. Can’t find anything too helpful on YouTube. Do you know of anywhere else that I can look into set up and also getting the best out of the entertainment system?

The manuals on the My Audi App have been a help. Also found the MMI kind of leads you through the settings systems sequentially. Setting up the Digital Key is beyond me at the moment and the service Key is still in the envelope. We are lucky in some ways to be in a minority apart from when we need online media for assistance. Apple Car Play is slick, have not tried the Android Auto. Also have downloaded a couple of Apps like YouTube and Alexa. Received a limited offer of Themes for a £1 / month for 3 months but not sure I need them.

It all seems fairly intuitive, but hoping some help with the default settings for when you switch it on so there’s less button pressing or screen pressing to be done such as the heater would be really helpful. I have bought a theme and it does work quite nicely with the ambient lighting but you can’t see much of it in Apple CarPlay but I am really impressed with the Audi satnav as find the connection is more reliable than going through my phone? Not sure if this is a set up issue. We’ll have to have to look into the apps.

Also, I’m not sure whether you keep your keys in a faraday box. I do and they was less than 6 m away from the car and it zapped the life out the batteries,  in about a month! You have to keep them further than 6 m away if they are in a faraday box, as  they’re constantly looking for a signal but can’t achieve one because of the faraday box .
This is what the Audi assist told me he’s called out to them all the time!

Have to agree that the Sat Nav is slick - also has the AI function to learn driver preferences. WRT keys, they sit in the usual place. with all the other car and bike keys. I am interested into why the keys will drain battery if in faraday cage. Surely same would happen if keys out of range of receiver in car?? It would suggest the keys increase signal gain when out of range of car. A design flaw maybe but if the key maintains a link with the car without proximity is this how they deliver a secure encrypted interface. Blocking this will undo the function Audi have adopted possibly. I recall VAG group adopting step on codes for their keys years ago.
