gear box a bit clunky when selecting reverse from drive

Featured Replies

hello guys I am  new to the forum but would like to follow any tips and info regarding my Q5 , gear box a bit clunky but not over drastic at the moment but id like to catch any problems early  does any one think a service on gearbox and also diff around due date ive done 65.000 miles the rest of the shifts are ok including paddle and sports box manually on auto stick

Gearbox likely to be S Tronic (7 speed DL501) which should have fluid and filter changed every 38-40k miles. Front and rear diff usually good for 100k miles but no reason you can’t do earlier. I think Audi approach to diffs is sealed for life, and will check levels only, which is utter nonsense.

If that doesn’t work, then update via VCDS could help with gearbox adaption process.

Find a decent Audi specialist and they should point you in right direction..

On a 2018 Q5 it may be ultra Quattro which means car is 2-wheel drive and engages 4-wheel drive via Haldex unit on rear diff rather than torsion. It’s due service every 20-30k miles and depending on generation, there’s an interior mesh screen that needs cleaned.

cheers guys not quite sure Steve Q on gear box service I have only got part service history with the car which I am not over confident because last 3 services was at  Halfords done by previous owner  but I am going to edge my bets and change just for a piece of mind thanks for the info spartacus car is due for a service around January time so I  am going to get them to change gear box filter etc etc

cheers thanks

Hello Graham,

Do you intend to have your January service done at Halfords, as the previous owner did?
Obviously your call, but if your local branch are as ours,  then you will get ECP’s best as parts! Wouldn’t be for me but…

Regards,

Gareth.
