navigation system has not been activated yet.

Featured Replies

Hi, I’m new to this forum and not sure if this topic has been covered before so apologies if it has.

My Q5 (2017) satnav, apple play and Bluetooth have recently stopped working and my MMI screen displays the message: “

“Your navigation system has not been activated yet. Please contact your Audi dealer.”

The SD card is the original.

Audi want £150 just to do a diagnostic check plus the cost of any parts / labour.

Has anyone else had this issue and is there an alternative fix other than through Audi for instance would me purchasing a new SD card with the latest maps be the answer?
thanks

Thanks for your response Steve and Cliff.

Steve - I thought about taking my car elsewhere but If I need an activation code and newer software then I'd probably end up going to a Audi dealership in the end.

Cliff - It maybe the subscription to use the satnav and Bluetooth has expired but the Audi dealership I brought the car from never mentioned anything about subscriptions at the time of purchase.

I just thought someone else may have experienced this message and how they ended up solving.

Much obliged for your input

Update - main dealer fixed my problem by carrying out activation of 5F software update to activate the navigation. Diagnostics test cost £150 and this included the activation above.

I googled 5F and found this:-

“Here’s a clear explanation of what “activation of 5F to activate navigation” means, in normal language.

What “Activation of 5F” Means

In Audi terminology, 5F is the control module for your infotainment system (MMI / MIB unit).

It is the “brain” of:

  • Navigation
  • Bluetooth
  • Telephone
  • Apple CarPlay / Android Auto
  • Radio and media functions

When the dealer says they “activated 5F”, it means they re-enabled or re-loaded the software activation keys inside this module.

Why this fixed your issue

Audi’s infotainment features (navigation, smartphone interface, voice control, etc.) are protected by cryptographic licences called FEC/SWaP codes (Function Enable Codes / Software as a Product).

These activation files tell the car that:

  • your navigation is licensed
  • Bluetooth/CarPlay are enabled
  • your features are genuine and allowed to run

If the 5F module loses these activation codes — due to:

  • corruption
  • voltage dip
  • internal glitch
  • failed software update
  • internal storage hiccup

— then the MMI loads but features disappear.”

Hope the above is useful should anyone else get the same problem.

Thanks

Dave

Thanks David. So you had to buy a new subscription. This is a nasty underhand practice that is becoming prevalent throughout the motor trade. It verges on deceipt because car sellers never reveal its existence when you buy a car. No wonder car dealers are viewed with suspicion. Arther Daley still lives.
