Steering warning light

Featured Replies

Hi All, This is my first post as I'm a new member, thank you for letting me join.

I have an issue with a steering warning light on my Audi A6 2012. The warning light is accompanied by a message that says I can continue driving.

I have taken it to a couple of friends with computers and then to an auto electrician all to no avail. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please? T.I.A. Tim.

Hi this is one of those not easy to diagnose without the following information, do you have any codes, how old is the battery?, explanation is it could be a low voltage fault if the battery is weak as the electric steering uses a fair amount of amps, it could be a corroded connector on the steering rack, not much to go on with no codes but working it back to your message on the dash it could well be battery related.

Thanks for that Stevey. I did get a code from the auto electrician but dont have it to hand. The battery is probably quite old as I can't remember having changed it in the 7 years that i've had it. I'll search for the code and get back to you. Thank you for the reply.

I haven't written the code down but I will get it tomorrow from the garage and come back on here, thanks.

I’ve booked it in to another auto electrician on Saturday. I’ll let you know the outcome for feedback. Thanks.

Hi An update after a visit to another garage that could not solve my problem but I did get the fault code which is B200049. This is something relating to the module on the steering rack. That’s as far as I got. I have an appointment with another garage on Tuesday.

I took it to a garage and they told me it was a fault in the module on the steering rack and they would have to replace the whole steering rack at a cost of £3k. But my local garage has found a company in Bristol that will repair the module for about £600. So my local will take off the rack and send the module to them and then replace the lot for about £1k.

Will do Steve, thanks.
