I’ve tried eBay and scrap yards Audi have discontinued the original cable for bonnet release original part number is 8E2823531C

my chassis is wauzzz8h64ko27447

does any one know which would be best for compatible that will actually fit right hand drive I don’t need the original just one that’s compatible  please can anyone help??

Hello Jerome,

I’m a bit confused!

Original part no……………C.

’Ordered a few on line under ……….C.’ So what is the problem with the ones you have bought?

Trust we can sort out your confusion with part number!

It’s much easier if you could have initially told us where you had tried, to avoid us suggesting where you had already searched.
EBay International?

Breaker link systems such as Partsfinder - there are more.

Speedy Cables Ltd. (Swansea) should be able to make one to your old pattern if all else fails.
Regards,

Gareth.

So the genuine original part number is 8E2823531C

so I have tried on ebay.co.uk I was going to order one under part number Audi A4 8E B7 Bonnet Release Cable New Genuine 8E2823531G

i message the person who is selling this and said this will not fit my car. But it looks exactly the same as my original

so I am trying to find one that is compatible and would fit my car as it doesn’t need to be the original genuine part just as long as it fits and is for right hand side drivE?

thank you for replying everyone as this is really stressing my head out

This is the eBay page I was going to purchase until he said it won’t fit my car

https://ebay.us/m/YbL6Nf

the seller said

“ It’s the wrong length  1730mm so it won’t fit”

does anyone know the actual size of the original cable 8E2823531C

Well that was my next question, the bonnet release cable from my car has been stretched so I don’t even know the actual size of the cable.

I was going to ask does anyone on here know the size in length of the original part 8E2823531C

Bonnet release

Yes that’s what I thought haha the Machanic said he fitted the cable back onto my car but when he pulls the latch nothing was happening so he said it’s like the tension has gone with the cable and it’s not unlocking the bonnet latch when he pulls the lever that’s near the foot peddles, so he has took the cable back of and I am going to send it to speedy cables in Swansea to get them to replicate the cable, but my problem is if they replicate it without me knowing what the actual length should be as if the replicate it to the spec it is at now then when the Machanic comes to put it back on it might be the same and there might be no tension there to unlock the latch when pulled.

Very confused now!

Why on earth would you want to get a new one manufactured to replicate one which doesn’t work??
I don’t think I can add much more to this post.

So my bonnet kept opening up whilst driving, I took my car to my Machanic, he said the problem is either the cable or the actual locking mechanism on the bonnet. So he changed the locking mechanism first and the bonnet now locks and doesn’t open on its own.

But he also took the cable of to replace it with a new one just incase the cable was damaged also (which it wasn’t it was just the locking mechanism that was damaged)

so he then put my cable back on, and now  the release cable doesn’t unlatch my hood anymore, he said there no tension in the cable when pulling the latch which means he damaged the tension in the cable when he either took the cable of the first time or putting it back on.

He then tried to order a new original cable from Audi and found out that Audi do not make my original cable no more and that there’s not one out there that’s compatible  with my car and the best thing to do is get one replicated by a company.

so this is the dilemma.

so Im trying to find out the actual specs of my original release cable to give to speedy cable so the can replicate correctly

Jerome.

Every car has two latches for the bonnet. The primary one is operated by a mechanism inside the car; there is also a secondary latch to prevent the bonnet flying up in case the first fails, which is operated usually by a lever under the lip of the bonnet. Evidently both of yours have failed if the bonnet was flying up. Has the car been crashed?

No it’s not been in crash it’s just wear and tear, and I’ve managed to get the specs for my original cable, and now have sorted for this to be replicated so hopefully all will be good once I get back the new replica hopefully it will fit and work. Thanks to all for the help and messages it’s much appreciated, I’m m sure I’ll be back on here with more questions soon haha again thank you all …….
