Tuning options for an Audi A6 Avant C8 45 tfsi

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Having searched the Internet for tuning options on the A6 C8 45 tfsi I'm not getting much info in return. There is a little on tuning boxes maybe but nothing really on ecu remapping.

I'm not keen on a tuning box as id like an individual tune and gearbox map to the car but I've read that the ecu is locked so not many companies if any are offering the service.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this please?

I have a 2021 A6 Avant 45 2.0 tfsi 265 ps and would like to get it close to the Golf R power specs.

Cheers Matt.

Have you checked on Celtic tuning website as they have a configurator that you can use to select different maps.

Yes Steve, Celtic are the ones who told me the ecu is locked 🔒 unfortunately 😬

Hi read up on SFD then you will understand the reason why its locked and no tuning companies can change that as when you try to alter anything to do with the ECU you have to generate a challenge code to the VAG mainframe which will be denied if its not from a dealer IDOS system.

Cheers Steve.

Where did you get that inside information from and sorry but what is an SFD?

Odd that the A6 45 is so hard to tune when the 3.0 55 can be done more easily. I thought the EA888 was very tunable but Audi have clearly made the ecu harder to crack to be awkward, shame.

Steve.

So, I've looked into this and understand that the SFD1 was introduced in 2020 and SFD2 2024 as a way to try and restrict anyone other than the VAG family dealers working on or adapting their cars.

Hi well done you have got it in one, the level of sophistication of the new software means they can even send software updates remotely using AI and bluetooth, I am in no doubt that some bright spark will find a way around it soon but they are working on a similar system that Apple use whereby they can fry the main microprocessor remotely if the ECU issues more than one challenge code for the mapping.

Steve.

Like most ECUs, they are

Mostly now all locked down under the guise of emissions, so conventional tune ups barely let you touch anything. What you need is new firmware/hardware and I’d say Syvecs is probably the best suited for VAG.

Syvecs is a full standalone ECU with its own firmware and software, so you’re not fighting the factory firmware.

It gives way more control over timing, fuel, boost, VVT — basically everything the OEM won’t let you touch. People even use it to run engines on completely different manufacturer platforms Mercedes engine in a Range Rover, Ferrari engine and gearbox in a Mazda the wild list goes on. It’s the only way to go twin turbo on the V10 VAG group engines.

It’s not cheap, but if you want proper control on a locked ECU, it’s basically the only option for tuning and if your going to spend the money your going to go big or go home.
