Brake squeak

Featured Replies

Got a persistent brake squeak on my SQ7 and looking for ideas before I just run the pads down and replace them.

I’ve taken all pads out across the car, cleaned everything up, and applied anti squeal grease properly to the backs and contact points. Refitted everything making sure they’re seated correctly and moving freely in the carriers.

Pedal feels solid, braking performance is fine, no pulling, no vibration through the pedal.

Front discs have a slight lip, more noticeable on the left side, but not at the point I’d normally replace them.

Pads have been swapped around during refit so they’re not necessarily back in their original positions.

Still getting a squeak, mainly I think from the front.

At this point I’m thinking it’s just the pad compound being a bit cheap or the discs starting to wear, but wanted to see if there’s anything obvious I’ve missed before I leave it or change pads later. I didn’t fit the front pads so don’t know what make they are.

Did you try searching the forums for " brake noise" before leaving the above comment? I found five topics.

As you’ll see from my post, I put a lot of time into detailing my issue and my attempts to sort it. The threads I found all link back to things I have tried which you’ll see if you read my post, that said if I’ve missed one, which is possible, then your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Time to bite the bullet and renew with a reputable brand -?

That’s the nuclear option, it’ll be new pads and discs, but a shame as the have a fair few miles left on both.

I’m getting a clunk from the front right now too, braking forward and then backwards .. 🧐

Fair enough if you did, but as you did not mention that fact I thought I'd refer you.
