Audi Service Plan - brake fluid service

Featured Replies

I have a 2 year Audi service plan I received with my 1 year old S3 last year. First service under the plan is due, and the dealership tells me that a brake fluid service is recommended by Audi but not covered under the plan. I don't see this called out as an exclusion in the contract I recieved.

Surely that can't be right?

Typical Audi. Double check the small-print of your contract. These service offers are always weighted and aren’t comprehensive. Generally speaking, then brake fluid in a new car will be fine for first 3 years, then every 2 years thereafter. After car is 3 years old (manufacturer’s warranty expires) and your service schedule too, then find a trusted independent.

Hello Colin,

What is the mileage/time intervals on your 2 year service plan? What is the current mileage, and what is your annual mileage? Apologies for all the questions, but how long do you intend to keep the vehicle?

Answers to these questions will dictate what regime is best for you and/or the car.

Regards,

Gareth.

Service plan covers two services. Currently around 5000 miles pa, aiming for annual service (to align with MOT in future years).

Plan to keep car for 7-10 years.

Thanks.

In my experience these service packs are normally tied in with finance and a waste of money. It covers one oil change as minor service and the following year a major service, which is basically air, pollen and oil, plus possibly spark plugs if petrol. There's normally a mountain of small-print too regards engines up to 2.0 litre.

Thanks Colin,

Due to your low annual mileage and the fact that you intend keeping it, it’s most important that you get at least the oil and filter changed annually, rather than their ‘extended service’ schedule - which extends to c 18k or 18 months - which is too long for the mileage you cover.

Do you know what servicing schedule the car is set on?

To me, this thread demonstrates the importance of comprehensive detail, before offering advice on best servicing requirements to suit a particular set of circumstances.

Regards,

Gareth.

I elected to take out a 4 year service plan to spread the cost of maintenance. It is clearly stated what is in included but not what is excluded from the service items but through owner experience I know what can be added to a service as "extras". One key thing is to get the car into the workshop and do the inspection, ID worn items such as tyres and brakes and then offer to replace for a premium.

There are some very good independents out there that will help you save money but with such a young car I do not think you can better the franchised Audi support.

Thanks Gareth,

The car is currently on the flexible extended service schedule - mainly because they did a 'minor' service at 9 months before I took ownership. Car is now 2 years old and I plan to service now and annually from here so will ask them to change to fixed schedule. That way it will align with MOT in future years.

Still not decided about brake fluid service this time.

Brake fluid change is not included in vag service plans. Audi recommend every 2 years from new while vw say 3 years from new then every 2 years. If you want to retain the audi 3 year warranty for the remaining year you need to at least check the maintenance schedule and make a decision based on that.

Dealership kindly agreed to do my brake fluid service for half price. So all good now, thanks to all who replied.

My Sq5 states 2 years and every 2 years thereafter. Was quoted around £90 yesterday, during my first service and inspection. Are you saying it'll void my last year of warranty if I don't agree to it being changed. ?

How much did they sell you the 2 services for , ? Mine was £256.

It was included with the car, along with an extra year on the warranty. So don't know, sorry. 😀

£256 seems a great price for two services though!

It varies between manufacturers, as mentioned VW say 3 years from new and then every 2 years. Audi are 2 years from new, then every 2 years. But knowing Audi, they would step away from caliper issues if not done. £90 is steep in my book, but not for Audi.

I have a two year service plan and was told oil disposal wasn't included as part of the first oil change and would be an extra cost. This was done free of charge after I complained, however I have been advised of the brake fluid change after two years at a cost of £135!

£52 at Kwik fit . Lookers Audi £90 , lookers nissan , just next door only £60 . Gotta laugh for a £10 bottle of brake fluid . Tester pens on eBay from £2.50.

Thanks, will certainly look for a cheaper dealership or argue that it wasn't made obvious that it wasn't a comprehensive package when it was sold to me.

I argued, and at £40 it ended up cheaper than Kwik Fit would have been! Check your T&Cs - my contract has a list of exclusions (gear box oil, spark plugs, etc) - but not brake fluid.
