A3 1.2 Petrol engine - Thoughts?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am looking at purchasing another a3, (first was a bit of a lemon).

Seen a nice 2015 A3 with the 1.2 engine. I understand these are quite rare with the A3. Does anyone have this engine, and what should i be wary of?

Kind regards,

Harold

Perhaps another viewpoint to ponder over:

How important is ‘full service history’ on an 11 year old car, particularly when serviced under VAG’s regime of every 18K miles or 18 months, and air filters changed every 40 odd K? Appreciate the claim of FSH on relatively newish vehicles - where proof of this influences prices and desirability - but after that, enthusiastic ownership means more to me, with annual oil changes, even on a DIY basis , rather than being too impressed with vehicles which have spent 2hrs in a workshop every 18 months, and possibly been treated with disrespect for the rest of the year.

Just a personal view when assessing aging cars!

Having said I’m not a supporter of Longlife service intervals, I find JLR are recommending servicing at 2 years old, or 24K - whichever comes first. This is called progress I guess!

Regards,

Gareth.

Service history is key. It should have proof of cambelt change (unless chain). If auto make sure there's proof of gearbox servicing.

Thanks Steve. Do you know if these are chain or belt driven? i’m seeing conflicting info online (the 1.2L engines)
