A6 proposed purchase

Recommended Posts

Welcome to proposed Audi A6 purchase.

Yes, I know what an acronym is, but never knew it was a prerequisite of Audi ownership. If so, I'm out of compliance!

Good luck.

Well MM ( is that really your forename? - I was going to say Christian name, but that probably won't be politically correct any more!) - if you understand one part of it, then you are at least one step ahead of me! - I haven't a clue what you are on about, but I think I will just plead being thick.

Good luck with your acronyms.

Thanks Envy x

Is this forum always like pulling teeth ?

I thought it might be about enthusiasts exchanging info and spares knowledge et al ? Appears thus far to be "mines bigger than yours"

Apart from you I've only had sarcasm and questions about my moniker

For the record my name is Tony Mellows and  I'm known as Magic Mellows on a pinball forum (which does the afore mentioned) because I have a passion for restoring Pinball Machines and my speciality machine is called Pinball "Magic"

back to my subject

The dealer offered the aforementioned acronym's but from your kindly posted photos their is no way a C6 variant could have these as they appear to be post 2011 model

Envy..............as your the only one talking sense in your opinion would a C6 on a '06 plate have Bluetooth ?

Thank You

MM

Or to keep the Pedants' happy

Tony

Hi Tony,

I am a newbie around here myself so bear with me. Must say I was a little surprised by the initial responses you got.

Pinball is an incredible hobby - colleague at work was very into it before wife and kids syndrome kicked in - Attack From Mars has to be a favourite.

Bluetooth (BT) was in its early stages back in 2006 - this is where your challenges will lie - the interface protocol has remained fairly standard since inception but (big but)  as Phones have evolved (firmware and features) certain aspects such as Phone Book support may not work. Previous car of mine (not Audi) would not support Samsung S3 Phone Book until after a headunit FW upgrade.

Another experience of mine is that just because the Headunit has buttons on it that say Bluetooth, DAB etc - it does not mean the options were ticked at manufacture. Again experience with Audi is limited here and apologies for being a little sketchy but I can only suggest a test drive including trying out BT pairing.

Good luck,

Tom

Morning,

prior to getting my S6, I had a 2006 A6 2.0 TDI S Line Avant. with regards to Bluetooth, my vehicle had it, so Bluetooth pairing for my IPhone, i could download my phone book from my phone to the memory in the car, additional options it had was full electric driver and passenger seats, both with lumbar support, electric heated folding mirrors, memory for drivers seat, cruise control and also the 2g mmi dvd based sat-nav which had the RNS(Radio Navigation System) which changed the sat nav directions due to traffic jams being reported.

i had my A6 for 2 years and the only issues i experienced was i had to change a headlight bulb and 2 front tyres, apart from that it was as solid as a rock.

regards

Paul.

HI Paul and Tom

Thanks for an intelligent response, I was about to dump his forum, you have given me renewed hope after the initial stupidity I received

I'm buying a 3.0 V6 desease'l with electric heated memory seats, high MMI, Xenons, dimming mirrors et al ..........boys toys heh heh

I forgot to check for Bluetooth which in this day and age carries 6 points and a £200 fine if not hands free

So if I understand correctly the only way to check is to ask my Iphone if it can find the car ? and follow pairing protocol

IF it doesn't how much would you (purely as advice) stab the dealer for a discount ? (cost of retro fit)

secondly how do I tell what bhp its churning out and is a remap at 138k too much to ask of the engine ?

Sorry to ask benign questions .............still learning xx

If you need help with Pinball....reply off forum.......... there is much better than attack from Mars imho

MM

Sorry Tony (for the pedant)

MM,

You may have to turn on the Bluetooth in the cars MMI to allow your phone to pick it up, off the top of my head i think you press the TEL button then the SETUP button to access it, however you may have to play about/ask the dealer/private seller.

if it doesn't have the Bluetooth option, my advice would be, due to the new legislation, price up a legal handsfree kit, like a parrot system, plus price of fitting and ask for that to be taken off of the asking price.

BHP wise the 3.0TDI came with between 221BHP or 230BHP depending on the model, however without placing it on a rolling road, which they should do at the re-map centre, there is no real way of knowing if it has been modified. other people may have different options to find that info out though.

remap wise, unfortunately i cant advise as i am not mechanically minded, however i do know of occasions of re-mapped diesel engines still going strong past the 200k mark, i would ask the facility that you intend to choose to carry out the re-map for advice prior but ensuring that it is a respectable company, not one just after your money.

Paul.

Congratulations on the new car Tony. Phone Pairing should be available suprised if it is not but as mentioned before it may not fully support later phones. If you are not happy with the BT support of the car then Parrot seems to be a favoured route. Retro-fit could be prohibitively expensive.

If you contact Audi they should be able to give you the original build sheet details for the car from VIN. Lots of the Audi Manuals are available online now - not sure on the integrity of some of the links though... Also Audi will let you know of any Recall and TSB work outstanding.

Your engine is of the higher miles club but should be good for a tad more power although in standard form it should be no slouch. 2.7 or 3.0? Condition is very dependant on how well the car has been looked after and driven previously. Do you have the service book for the car?

Hi Paul and Tom

Please excuse a "joint" response

Its a 3.0 with F.A.S.H up to 131k.....it has 138k on the clock

I have had loads of new out of the box high end cars as company vehicles with less than 10 miles on the odometer upon delivery and normally changed them at 100k or every two years but this is my first "new to me" one that I actually own and have responsibility for the cost of running.

I drove them and called the dealer when they broke knowing the bill was irrelevant to me.............reality now bites back with a vengeance. hence all the questions, it's now upfront and personal.

I've a little bit of girly giggles, excitement and trepidation so please excuse mundane (read as "sigh heard all this before") questions, I will simmer down

I am new around here too - Picked up mine in January having courted VX for many years. These forums are (usually) great for doing the research even before buying. There are some good Audi specialists about that can keep the running costs down and a Chip or Remap should help not only performance but also economy and drivability. Mate had his chipped to around 278 BHP - perpetual acceleration.

From the Movie Good Morning Vietnam:

[Lt. Steven Hauk uses Army jargon to refer to a press conference to be given by former Vice-President Nixon]

Adrian Cronauer: Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.
