  1. Hi, my names michael, im from Gateshead, uk My dad passed away 2 weeks ago, and when we were chatting in his last few days he wanted us to get cracking with his 2 audis this summer and get them back on the road. He has/had a 90 quattro sport (think its a 1991) and a coupe. So my plan is, with the knowledge of people from forums, to try and restore them both to as close to factory as possible, im not 100% on what's wrong with them as of yet, but I was planning on documenting the process of both. Id love to hopefully get them both to show car standard (in time) and take them to shows in the coming years as a memorial to my dad. So thats a little bit about me to say hello. Hope everyone is well Michael
  2. Yeh i fully understand what im getting myself into 😂 i mean it won't just be me, I have 3 brothers, one of which is handy with a spanner also, who is up for mucking in. The car isnt as bad as his coupe, which hasn't been started in nearly 20 years. Which is also a future restoration plan 😂 I just called into my parents house to see my mam and took a couple of pictures of both.
  3. You're welcome. Mercedes museum well worth a visit.
  4. Yep, I plan on getting it looked at. I know the car runs and drives, has a fuel leak and needs a new battery, as my dad was telling me. His favourite pass time was stripping motorbikes and old cars to repair them, and iv helped him with loads over the years, I do most the work on my own cars (unless its something I dont want to do haha) as for the space, he has a workshop where I would be doing all the work etc so thats not an issue. Time isnt an issue as such, but would be done a few hours on a sunday afternoon, not every weekend. Money, always an issue with every project haha but I fully get what your saying. Regardless, id like to atleast give it a good shot, for sentimental reasons, not for a sale price at the end of it. Saying that, I take on board what you have said and appreciate your input.
  5. Hello Abigail, I apologise in advance for the contents of this post, but I think it’s worthwhile stating the facts as we now know them, rather than laying all the blame at the door of the original owners. We now know that you have had this diesel car for 2.5 years, covering 45k miles in that time, but having it serviced only once during that mileage. Saying as it is, and by way of an explanation why this engine has gone !Removed! up - this will have been a significant contributor in its demise. Having said earlier that I’m not a fan of VAG’s 18k mile interval servicing, you will understand I certainly wouldn’t have recommended the servicing regime during your ownership. Sorry, this is just my opinion, and seeing it as I see it. I don’t want to make any judgement or criticism, but just to find a pathway of explanation. Others may disagree, and that is fine too. Way forward:- Richard’s suggestion of sourcing an alternative engine and gearbox would seem to be the most cost effective way around the problem. Do the economics stack up of spending a large sum of money on a 7 year old car?? Probably not, but… Finance:- I could be wrong, but I wouldn’t like to put a case forward to support not paying the outstanding payments. If it were mine, I would be seeking advice from your local CAB before contacting the finance company. I genuinely feel sorry for the plight you find yourself in Abigail, and I wish I had some low cost options for you. Please come back to us, and I’m sure everyone on here will attempt to offer you their best advice. Please don’t be alone with the effects of this. Regards, Gareth. p.s. I didn’t write txxts up, I wrote bxxxxts up! Why a banned word?

Speak to Audi parts. I agree, Audi removing dipstick to rely on MMI is worthy of a future Darwin award!
  7. Maria. I have merged your three identical topics into one. A little restraint would be appreciated. Please name the price you are asking.
  8. I think that's a very noble thing to do for your dad and any advice I have I would gladly give , Dave Wise
  9. The engine problem is unrelated a broken DMF, but would make the knock more noticable by its erratic running.
  10. This could be an issue with the instrument cluster. They can be tested and repaired and I'd recommend looking for local firms. Regarding the key, have you tried the spare key so that you can rule out the key. In failing that it could be an issue with the receiver. Has the car ever had wet carpets as wet passenger front foot well can damage the ccm.
  11. Without access to the car all I can is suggest the most likely problems. If you believe there is a bad earth but can not find one an auto electrician may be your best bet.
  12. Apologies for the gripe, but the forum has recently suffered from a spate of what can be termed ‘Post and Run’ new members, who seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to post a plea for help, and simply not return to view the help given. In a more diluted form, help is offered, but is very rarely acknowledged even via. a simple press of the Like button, leave alone a posted Thank You. The last part of the gripe is that we frequently have to ask for additional information, and this extra detail often never materialises. Please remember, everyone who posts replies do so without payment, but it certainly does cost them in time - in terms of the Moderators and Admin back up - a lot of time. So a special plea to all on here who post needing help:- please be respectful enough to acknowledge any help given, rather than simply accept it as a no-cost, no time of yours, free advice service. It’s wearing thin folks, so if you want to retain this service, please respect and acknowledge its benefits. Thank you all for reading this, and above all, agreeing to adhere to the respect that is needed to be shown. Kind regards, On behalf of the Moderators. Please note:- This request is to all members, not just new ones. p.s. Please avoid using non specific locations such as U.K., England etc. etc.
