2014 A4 B8 Sline Black Edition 2.0 TDi best engine oil
Hello Steven, Have a look at Quantum - Longlife variant - as was/is recommended by VAG. I’ve been using it for years. Have a look on EBay for best prices from reliable sellers. Kind regards, Gareth.

Cambelt & waterpump cost?
Many thanks Imran, I believe the 140K referred to is in kms, even though they ( who did you actually speak with at the dealers?) told you it was in miles. For me, I would rather trust the dealership near your office. Worth getting a quote from them? Kind regards, Gareth.

Rubbing sound on biting point?
Thanks Louis, Whatever the offending component is in the clutch assembly will only be known following dismantling. Anyone will simply be guessing which of the components is at fault before that. Kind regards, Gareth.

Cambelt & waterpump cost?
Ok Imran, I do trust you, but you are not saying anything about having checked whether this figure is in Kms or miles. Kind regards, Gareth.

Cambelt & waterpump cost?
140K in kms. Imran? (88K miles ). Really surprised about no time based element. I would be checking with another dealer and/or Audi Customer Services. Kind regards, Gareth.

Thanks Joe, Sounds like we are both victims of diminished tecciness, and equipment obsolescence! Built to last!? Kind regards, Gareth.

Cambelt & waterpump cost?
Many thanks Imran, I too would be forgetting the local garage. Almost certain to be using the cheapest parts option they can get. Independent sounds reasonable, and they should be using genuine VAG parts, but worth confirming. ‘Quality parts’ sounds too vague. All prices seem to be on a par with what I would have expected - pre price hikes to be honest. Prices include water pump? And auxiliary belt and assembly. Kind regards, Gareth.

iPod connection via USB socket
Hello Joe, Welcome, and thanks for joining. Of absolutely no use to you, but pending someone coming up with a possible solution, I’m in exactly the same boat with a nine year old non-Audi which won’t talk to a ten year old I Pod. Why?? Hoping some answers will be meaningful for me as well. As a complete non-techie, I’ve wondered about downloading the IPod content onto a memory stick and then trying that. That trial would be firmly based on knowing more terminology than I understand! My pessimistic feeling is the IPod is too old. Optimistic approach - let’s hope someone comes up with the answer. Kind regards, Gareth.

Chip tuning on Audi a4 B8.5 2.0 tdi 177
Hello Natalia, Not my field of expertise, but as I understand it, fitting a chip tuning box is a diluted route to the more expensive - and effective? - mapping, but of course I will bow to experienced opinion. Incase it matters:- I had a quick look into this route for a non-Audi and decided to leave well alone, and a year on, I’m still very much undecided. Of course, if you do decide to ‘tune’ the car then you will need to inform your insurers, who are likely to increase your premium. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hi just joined, got a 2014 rs4 suspension waring light on
Hello Chris, Thanks for joining, and sorry to hear of your continued plight. As I see it:- You paid Audi to successfully repair your car - they haven’t. It is no good speculating what maybe the cause of the continued issue, and even if someone does suggest possible causes, then you cannot get anyone else to fiddle with a vehicle that’s just come out of Audi’s care, otherwise they will understandably wash their hands of it. Your only route forward is to put pressure on them to re-inspect the car as soon as possible, and not in a month’s time. Speak nicely with the service manager ( rather than a service assistant) and see what you can agree. Perhaps you can let us know. Kind regards, Gareth.

Cambelt & waterpump cost?
Hello Imram, I wouldn’t be treating this critical application work as a ‘best price quote is king’ job. My rule of thumb is change at 75K or 5 years whichever comes first. The quality of parts is critical in my book, and I would suggest limiting your brand choice to Gates or Dayco, if not buying from Audi - you will probably find Gates belts in the Audi box even if you do. Water pump ( if cambelt driven on this engine):- You will encouragingly get healthy and varied opinion on here - which is always good. Mine, for what it’s worth, is that I would stick with an Audi pump for a little more, rather than using the bit cheaper route of buying Gates or Dayco kits which include the water pump - based on previous experience of premature pump failure coupled with same experience on a non-Audi earlier this year. Best advice I can give is do your own research and make your own decision. Renewing auxiliary belt and assembly at the same time is very sound advice. Cost? Easily costed at nearest Audi, but worth shopping around other dealers a bit further afield, since some do/did special offers from time to time. Personal opinion - if they have a deal that includes a free MOT during your ownership - avoid like the plague. They will have your discount back off you in record time! Try recommended independents in your area. Try your trusted local garage, but discuss parts to be used before agreeing to use this route. Good luck with it, and perhaps you could let us know how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth.

Service - Next Inspection Due
Hello William, What mileage has the car covered, and what is your current annual mileage? I notice you declined the plugs and brake fluid renewal, so I wonder if next service coincides with a timed brake fluid change -? Noticing that you change the air filter and plugs yourself, to understandably save some funds, it seems a little odd why you still have this 6 year old car serviced by the expensive route at a main dealer. Kind regards, Gareth.

Clutch and DMF kit
Thanks Darren, I couldn’t agree more - homework in anticipation, is king, so are you going to investigate via. LUK Technical whether 4 part kits are available? ECP? Never been too enthusiastic about them, and their once special discounts on so called retail prices - often still working out dearer than their sister company Car Parts for Less who listed the same part at a lower discount! Try Car Parts in Motion, and let us know how their prices compare. Kind regards, Gareth.

Clutch and DMF kit
Thanks Darren, I’m probably short on up to the minute experience on availability of 4 piece kits, and really gone on 3 piece as a kit, and the flywheel as a separate part. Let’s boil this down:- You are fortunate that LUK are marketing a 3 piece kit, so you now have a massive saving over VAG prices. I wouldn’t any longer assume that these kits are available as the norm - just try current MG for example! DMF - less likely to be available as aftermarket, so are you confirming your £580 is the aftermarket price ( bought as a separate item).? If so, have you checked the VAG price out of interest, to see what saving you are making there? Having 4 pieces in one kit, where the DMF will cost less than £580? Worth contacting LUK Technical to check if such a kit is available. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on Darren. Kind regards, Gareth.

Thanks Mo, Great shame the OP never found time to return to the forum to read any of the advice given. Still……. Kind regards, Gareth.

Clutch and DMF kit
Hello Darren, Have you tried searching for the 3 part clutch kit (excluding DMF) in the aftermarket - LUK would be my source? Have you confirmed aftermarket availability with LUK Technical? Having suggested that, it wouldn’t surprise me that all components may indeed be main dealer only, but worth investigating properly. Kind regards, Gareth.

Engine oil leak after oil change.
Great Stuart. I’d still ditch the Crossland filter, and fit a proper one for the sake of <£10 note. You can then rest comfortably that the filtration is what it should be. Kind regards, Gareth.

A6 c7 heater blowing cold
So Nigel’s theory didn’t work in your case.

Engine oil leak after oil change.
Hello Stuart, Many thanks for the additional information. Again, as if it were mine - Crossland filters would be at the bottom of my buying list. Once well respected, but now a bought out brand name by ECP, and supplied by Halfords via. a supplier link with ECP. Just as background, if you buy mixed paint aerosols from Halfords, you are actually buying from ECP. I’m not claiming the filter is at fault, and your subsequent issue may indeed be a coincidence, but I’d be removing the Crossland filter and throwing it as far as you can, and buying a replacement Mann, Hengst, or Meyle filter, and screw that on and see if the situation improves. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on Stuart. Kind regards, Gareth.

A6 c7 heater blowing cold
Thanks Nigel, So if Gavin had turned the passenger side heater control down to a much lower temperature, he would have had heating on the driver side - ? Kind regards, Gareth.
