  1. Welcome Farrukh, and many thanks for joining. Regards, Gareth.
  2. Hello Billy, I think you could request a copy of the build record at your local Audi dealer- if that helps. Regards, Gareth.
  3. +1 for Napa products, but I must add I’ve always steered clear of using them due to comments from local mechanics. Re. batteries:- I’m now favouring Exide premium due to a couple of issues with Varta/Bosch - but probably my fault for fitting them on very low usage vehicles. Regards, Gareth.
  4. Have the brake pads been checked to see if the wear symbol is correct? Regards, Gareth.
  5. Welcome Victor from the Homeland. Regards, Gareth.
  6. Thanks Michelle, Apologies, but I read it as the job had already been done. If your local garage does do it, it would be useful to know which component has actually failed - perhaps you can let us know in due course. Re. your discussions with Audi:- it may work out that they may eventually suggest a discount on their costs of repair. If so, you will need to work out whether it’s cheaper to go with your local garage or with Audi ( at their much higher labour rates). The burning smell may have been due to the slave cylinder failure resulting on clutch fluid getting onto the clutch plate. If it ends up with your local garage doing it, insist on only LUK. parts. You might find the flywheel is a main dealer part only, so that could affect their current quote, so wise to consider carefully if it boils down to a local garage vs main dealer ( with discount) quote. Good luck in getting justice, and please let us know how you get on. Regards, Gareth.
  7. Welcome Michelle and really sorry to hear of your issue. What particular component of the clutch assembly actually failed within the ‘total clutch failure’? Slave cylinder? Regards, Gareth.
  8. Totally unacceptable behaviour, so this poster has been warned, and any future posts will need to be authorised before being listed.
  9. Hello Martin, As with most electrical issue, it is always recommended to get the battery efficiency checked on professional equipment, before moving on to more complex possibilities. You battery at 12 year old is highly likely to be passed its best. Halfords stores will do that for you, but if found to be substandard then please come back before buying - if you have respect for your wallet. Regards, Gareth.
  10. Thanks Steve, not quite sure where your discontent stems from?
  11. Thanks John, So what are they going to do about that? It’s quite possible it’s a ‘real fault’ rather than a software issue.
  12. Would be useful to post it now Steve, so we can box the thread up.
  13. Any update Mathew?
  14. Did you get any further with this Steve?

I guess not Charlie, since we can see you have recently returned to the forum - but not yet responded.
  16. Try inspecting the wiring in the flexible harness twixt A post and the door frame, before moving on to other possibilities. Regards, Gareth.
  17. Hello Damian, A compression test may (in caps) indicate which cylinder/s are at fault, but I doubt it will be an accurate enough static test, and I wouldn’t hang my hat on it. My feeling is that this car is pre ‘skinny piston rings’ model - this believed to be for the 2009 model year - but I could be wrong. Not that it helps you, but our 178K miles 2006 A3 doesn’t use any significant quantity of oil between annual services, based on a now 6K/a usage. If you are going to fit the engine from the write-off, I would be renewing the cambelt assembly along with the auxiliary belt before refitting. Regards, Gareth.
  18. Welcome Adam, I can well understand dealers not giving part nos. since they know the enquirer will not be buying from them. Couple that with the likelihood of redress if the given part number proves to be incorrect, makes the company policy meaningful. If you do a forum search under ‘Part number’ it should give you quite a number of recent threads asking for part numbers. The answers will be there. Please let us know how you get on Adam. Regards, Gareth.

So are you going to tell us more about this than Charlie?
  21. Magnet replied to Keith74's topic in Audi Q5 Club
Worth getting the alternator checked at the same time. Regards, Gareth.
  22. Why another new battery Claire? Why not get the existing one professionally checked - along with the alternator output? What brand is the current battery? Regards, Gareth.
  23. Hello Ingrid, Sorry to chase, but to evaluate how strong a case you have for redress with your 6 year old car, can you give us chapter and verse on its service history? Have asked before, but obviously you have been diverted with your claim. Regards, Gareth.
