Hello Paul, Possibly a daft question, but is there anything preventing you removing the back seat backrest - sometimes anchored at the base and ‘slid over’ hook type brackets at the top. Appreciate you will still have to work through any cross bracing, but…. Alternative? Try a largish local bodyshop for advice. They would have to work through this situation. Regards, Gareth.

Well that’s exactly what I am suggesting, and I’ve given you a product name that I’ve used to good effect. Anything else you need to be advised on David? It might be worth considering covering the hood with a tailored cover when not in use, but there are pros and cons with that.

Thanks Owen. So is the MOT current or not? It would amaze me that this car part would have deteriorated to the extent it has in 1 year. This would lead me to question how thorough the last MOT was, and what the rest of the car is like in reality. If you or your stepdad intend to do it -? He would appear to be equipped and capable of carrying out this work. Saying it as I see it, you don’t, and as such I would dissuade you from attempting it do it, unless on the basis of you being an assistant to him, whenever the car is worked on, in his workshop. Cost to get it repaired? Very much an open ended question, since if this pan has gone as bad as it is, I would doubt whether the other suspension parts on that side would be worth leaving unchanged - leave alone the condition of the other side. Welcome David and thanks for joining. I think the answer lies in how clean and good the hood is now. Yes, there are proprietary products on the market, but the soft tops I’ve had have been treated to a good clean, then treated with Fabsil ( tent waterproofer) once a year. If you are going to DIY it then let us know and the basic, but important procedure can be outlined. Is the car kept outdoors with you? Regards, Gareth.

Welcome Owen and sorry to hear of your issue. Corrosion of these bottom suspension pans is not uncommon, and it looks like the top one is not too healthy either. I would rate this as a job not to consider unless you have a comprehensive array of tools, jacks and a safe spring compressor. My first port of call would be to give the near side a good coat of inspection, since this might also be in need of sorting. When was the car last MOT’d Owen? It seems the car has now been sitting around for a couple of months, which suggests you don’t desperate need it. Sorry to say, but unless you are a confident and experienced car DIYer. you will need to get it transported and repaired by a garage. Regards, Gareth.

Hello Simon, As above - if you are going to DIY it, then removing the wheel to ensure you are buying the correct discs shouldn’t be a problem for you. Possible alternative:- try LLL website and they should give you the correct part number. ‘…… defaulted to my usual online choices of GSF, Autodoc, ECP…’ Making a mental note to myself - total disrespect for his wallet! GSF sometimes reasonable prices, but often not. Autodoc - paying extra for postage. ECP - started life with x% discount on so called retail prices. Now stopped that, and seldom competitive, in my book. Still….. Regards, Gareth.

Our Andrew joined us on August 22nd and posted his plea for help at the same time. That’s fine. What isn’t fine is that just hasn't bothered to return to read, let alone acknowledge the advice he asked for, so regrettably yet another example of ‘post and run’ new members wasting people’s time to no avail!
