  1. Any answers Jon?
  2. I don’t want to highjack Steve’s responses, but it would be useful to know how long the car was out of regular use getting the starting issue sorted, and how much regular use has it had since you have had it back - ? If it were mine, I wouldn’t be throwing any money at it at this stage, but I would take it on a good (minimum 20 mile) run and end up an Halfords store and ask them to measure the battery’s efficiency ( as Steve points out), and also the alternator output. If the battery is substandard, then I wouldn’t be buying a battery there if you have any respect for your wallet. Just come back to us at that stage and we can advise further. Regards, Gareth.
  3. Welcome Carl, When you say the car wouldn’t start, do you mean the car would crank over (energetically?) but would not start, or it just wouldn’t crank over? Regards, Gareth.
  4. Images of the scales are too in distinct to offer any advice. Really didn’t expect the earth to make any difference to the drain. Reserve judgement until, you have removed the alternator plug and checked if the battery still runs down overnight. If that doesn’t sort it, I would seriously recommend you seek the assistance of a trusted local electrician. You really don’t want to be playing with the electrics on these unless you are experienced in doing so.
  5. So to answer the question the light within the left hand side of the tailgate was not part of the repair work -?
  6. Sorry, not understanding the last bit.
  7. Hello Colin, Let’s get back to basics and ask:- What was the tyre size on your original 17 inch wheels? What is the tyre size on the 20 inch wheels?
  8. Somewhat evasive response! Perhaps I shouldn’t comment on the following, but… ‘..submit …for testing …..rule yes or know’ Um, know for no. ‘Doesn’t cost you…..as your our customer…’ Um, your for you are. Anyway…. Why don’t these people simply state ‘ we used Brand x, and we will now be using Brand Y? Regards, Gareth.
  9. Hello again Colin, Have you had the car long enough to have not experienced this issue before?
  10. Hello Ross, Although you are very welcome to advertise this on here, I feel the forum has to emphasise to interested parties that the tyre and wheel are damaged, and that professional advice should be sought re. suitability and safety for road use before actual use. Regards, Gareth.
  11. So they will be fitting another brand this time - not ‘an OE equivalent’ but now the ‘same quality as the original’! OK, if it were mine, I would ask them to list the make of the latest one on the work sheet. 2 year warranty on this latest one and starting from now?
  12. Pleasure, hope you can work something out. That’s a very nice number to have, and of course it’s unique! Kind regards, Gareth.
  13. Hello Dan, Probably best to PM Andrew, since he hasn’t been on here for over 9 months. Please let us know the outcome. Regards, Gareth.
  14. Hello Marc, ‘….probably fitting the same type again… ‘ If so, then the risk of the same end result may well remain. Why not dip into your pocket and get one (and the rubber seal) from Audi, and ask your garage to fit that. If you do suffer any issues after that, you can then eliminate the thermostat as the culprit. Regards, Gareth.
  15. Hello Cassandra, Was the light in the tailgate section damaged in the accident?
  16. This forum doesn’t have any issue with your user name either, but it does have certain standards in relation to actual names, and my personal view is that by changing it from ‘D’ to ‘&’ is simply an attempt to be clever and to extract the urine - impolite! I’ll refrain from further comments about your posts and wish you, and those you deal with at the dealer, good luck with your purchase. There we are then!
  17. It’s Thursday tomorrow Mark. Any further thoughts on your Carbon clean?
  18. Hello Marc, As Cliff says. That indeed was my motive for asking what brand the new thermostat was. In quite recent times I regret to say the reliability of new-out-of-box components has become very, very questionable, and not helped by the increasing use of the term OE which might encourage buyer confidence. Again, the use of once trusted brand names - now owned by licensing companies - adds kudos to products no longer manufactured to anything like the quality of the original brand. Dad/granddad then says ‘that’s a quality brand’ and it aids sales. So don’t take for granted that once respected brand name components will be serviceable, simply because they are new. Thermostats are a key component, and are sometimes difficult to access, so for me, it’s the exception to the rule, and I spend a bit more on one bought at the main dealer. Regards, Gareth.
  19. Welcome D ( what is your name?). Can any member/owners please help out with this? Regards, Gareth.
  20. Thanks Naresh, I would suggest restricted use and very frequent level checking when you do have to use it. Don’t depend on the ‘low coolant ‘ message popping up to remind you to do that. Regards, Gareth.
  21. Hello David, Seems like you have your mA in a twist. Power consumption when the car has fully shut down (possibly in excess of 30 mins after being locked) should be around 50 ish mA, so 1.6 ma must be wrong. My guess is you are talking amp figures here rather than mA. Try disconnecting the alternator output plug - might be discharging through a faulty diode. Regards, Gareth.

Any particular reason why your Sign On has now changed to Guest, Paul?
  23. First question first before moving on:- Brand of new thermostat used?
  24. Welcome Mark, I fear you are about to throw your money away by engaging in this ‘carbon clean’ - a bit like putting on your best designer gear, when you haven’t changed your underpants for a week! If it were mine:- Check how much fuel is in it - hopefully not much - and add 2 gallons of E5 to which you have added a fair dose of Redex. (See this morning’s response to a similar issue with an aging convertible). Get it plugged in and find what codes are showing. It seems you have been told it has service history, but you have not seen the evidence before committing to buy. Bit of a chance taken there, but…. I would certainly keep my ‘carbon clean’ funds as far down in my pocket to render it inaccessible. Please let us know how you get on Mark. Regards, Gareth.

Many thanks Gregg. Now understandable in knowledge of stale fuel. I would suggest you only use E5, and add a fair slosh of Redex to every gallon. Well worth treating it to an oil and filter change using respected branded filters and oil. Kind regards, Gareth.
