  1. Broken springs have now become a regular problem - both together?? Any incident with speed bumps etc.? Obviously the answer lies solely via. an inspection of the car, and I would suggest this is carried out without delay. Would you be kind enough to come back with the cause , so other members might benefit. You are sure it’s a spring rather than air suspension set up - ? Regards, Gareth.
  2. Many thanks Nicholas, I think this warrants being entered into a specialist Classic car type auction to maximise its interest. Auction houses inc. H&H, Iconic,(seem to realise high prices), Brightwells etc. - probably a bit newish for Mathewsons. You could also try advertising it in Car and Classics, and I believe you can also do this on an auction basis. Back to Mathewsons - Sarah who used to work for them, now is part of Evoque Classics ( please check I have the correct name), and they also act as sales brokers and do the advertising for you, and the car stays with you. If it were mine, I would be very selective in who I allowed to view this car. Please let us know if we can be of further help - and how you get on. Regards, Gareth.
  3. Welcome Nicholas, Have you been the sole owner from new? Regards, Gareth.
  4. Welcome Jason. Try LLL Part website. They might identify the part no. for you. If not, you obviously will have to wait until you have access to the car to measure the sizes. Please let us know how you get on. Regards, Gareth. p.s. Could you do us a kindness and amend your profile to include your town or county within England.
  5. Why join and respond to a year old thread which has already been actioned. Please convince us that you too are not a spammer.
  6. Welcome John, Main dealer sounds a logical choice, where you order it one day and it’s usually there for collection the next day. If you want cheaper, then factors such as Parts in Motion ( there are many more) should be worth a try - usually standard 48hr. delivery. Regards, Gareth.
  7. Jumping in Rabin. No point in over thinking this. The benefits of using ‘super’ petrol are debatable for bread and butter cars. For what it’s worth, our 176k miles A3 has consumed supermarket fuel until about 10 years ago when its annual mileage was higher then normal. Over the last 10 years it’s generally run on Texaco ordinary, simply because it’s only 1p/litre dearer than Tesco 200 yds down the road - and I admit to be mistakenly brand conscious! Regards, Gareth.
  8. Thanks Mark, Please note that the posts are very old, some poorly written, and opinions are diverse.
  9. Would I be wrong in thinking the quoted gear change speeds seem reasonable? Regards, Gareth.

Thanks for joining Dave. You have a couple of helpful responses to your plea.
  11. Sorry, video doesn’t work on my system. Could you please describe. Regards, Gareth.
  12. Welcome Ray, If you bought the vehicle to tow, then you can only hope it does so without problem, and base that hope on the fact that there is previous experience of trouble free towing with a glass roof. If you are having the tow bar fitted in case you might want to tow then the consequence can only be the outlay in fitting. As I see it, a significant part of the vehicle’s strength rests in an integral steel roof section, which locks the whole shell strength together, and ‘removing’ the steel structure and replacing it with glass is engineeringly averse. It can be argued, that the bonding of the glass to the side structure replicates that rigidity, but that is controlled by the adhesive bond between glass and body. There has been reports of bonding breakdown (usually due to flexing) and subsequent leaking, across a number of marques - sometimes leading to shattering at stress points. Having said that, I recall successful trials being undertaken with adhesive bonding of chassis members on light commercials, even under sub zero temperatures and simulated crash/impact tests - and that was 30 years ago! My personal take on all this is I wouldn’t buy a glass roofed vehicle if I was going to tow a reasonable (caravan type) load, but… Regards, Gareth.

Welcome Dave, Sometimes on a stick on label in the side of the spare wheel well. Are you going to do some DIY bodywork on it? If so, the paint supplier should be able to match it with knowledge of what variants of the basic colours there were for your model year. Basic colour? Regards, Gareth.
  14. Your choice obviously Steve, but I wouldn’t be taking a 13 year old car to a main dealer, where diagnostic checks will seriously damage your wallet, and you will only be able to talk with a service receptionist. If it were mine, I would first be checking out a trusted localish independent, where you can hopefully talk with whoever does the diagnostics. Regards, Gareth.
  15. Yes, I’ve already given you one UK supplier, who has been in the business for around 60 years plus. Price??
  16. Hello Gary, Our non-Audi came with the goo and compressor arrangement - to my disliking - so I bought a secondhand space saver tyre and Jack to replace it. Well worth searching EBay. Regards, Gareth.
  17. So what is the problem with U.K. suppliers, if you are prepared to buy from the U.S?
  18. Hello Dan, Strange the moulding attachment is via. double sided tape (only?) rather than plastic fixings. I would expect 2mm thick to be much rarer, but have you tried an EBay search. If this tape is an original fitting then I would expect Audi to have a part number for it, unless it comes as part of the replacement moulding. If so, that may be your guaranteed route. Another possible source may be calling in to a localish bodyshop and discussing your ‘want’ with them, and seeing it they can help. Regards, Gareth.
  19. Welcome Pascal, and thanks for joining. In your country ?? , but if you are prepared to buy from the U.K., you could try Don Hoods ( I think the Hoods is correct, but please check). I would do a Google search on Classic Car Trimmers and/ or replacement hood suppliers. Please let us know how you get on. Regards, Gareth.
  20. Great. Let us know how you get on Roger.
  21. Hello Tony, Sorry to hear that, but the logic certainly stacks up, and I’m sure you have made the right decision for your circumstance. Audi ownership is not a condition of forum membership, so please don’t be a stranger on here - whatever you buy. Most importantly, many thanks for your input over the years - always interesting. Continue to enjoy the TC. Simple technology and an absolute minimum of anything electronic. I must confess to be well into cars of this era, it’s a very enjoyable activity. Take care Tony, and many thanks again, Kind regards, Gareth.
  22. Many thanks Roger. It could be me, but a bit general in detail -? If it were mine, I’d still enter my reg. no. into P in M’s site, and if still not specific, I would simply give them a ring. They are normally very helpful. Also worth looking up the LLL Parts website. Regards, Gareth.
  23. Thanks Roger, Where did that info. Come from? Regards, Gareth.
  24. Quite clearly written mate!
  25. No update, so regrettably this is another case of a member joining, posting a request for help and choosing to be simply disrespectful by not bothering to respond.
