A4 35tfsi B9.5 timing belt change
Apologies for jumping in Steve. I very much follow Steve’s views on this - unlimited time interval is asking for trouble. However, I would guess ‘the trade’ would (understandably?) following Audi’s current recommendation, and it’s unlikely that they would fit a new belt (this engine is belt driven at that time?) ‘within the deal’. Taking this as a strong possibility, and appreciating the car is not yet 5 year old, I would suggest you wait until it is, then decide who you going to use to fit it, and most importantly, what make of parts would ensure a good job is done. We can give you additional advice if you need it. Regards, Gareth.

High mileage Audi A4 b8
Hello Sulaimaan, Where have you looked for service history? Would you be buying it from a dealer or privately? How long has the current registered owner owned it. Have you checked the on-line MOT histories? Have run run an HPI type check on it? I’ve just used VCheck at just £9.99 - very comprehensive report. Not sure about the 2.0 TFSi, but I believe 2011 was within the year band of skinny piston rings and high oil consumption. Please come back to us with some answers. Regards, Gareth.

A3 Sound Deadening / Insulation (Road Noise)
Welcome Robin, I’m sure there was a thread (a couple of months back?) where someone had insulated an A1 to try to reduce what may have been tyre noise. Worth a search. Regards, Gareth.

Floor Mats
And dare I say, the originals don’t look to be the best quality.

Floor Mats
Hello Sam, I bought a set of bespoke carpet mats for our non-Audi quite a a few years back from Carmats4U ( still operating I believe). You could specify the quality - I think I chose a quality near the top, and they didn’t disappoint. In fact they were transplanted into a newer non-Audi and are still good. As well as choosing the quality, you could also choose the edge binding, and the stitching colour. Please let us know how you get on Sam. Regards, Gareth.

Agreed insurance valuation
Very impressive engine work Parmy, and overall a very nice example. Who is the actual insurance company who insure it for Adrian Flux? Regards, Gareth.

There we are then!

Agreed insurance valuation
Thanks Dan, So you will offer Agreed value cover ( with mileage restrictions?) for less than 20 year old ‘daily drivers’ -?

Where is best to advertise your car
If you think EBay is a clown’s playground, try Gumtree! The best of them hide there.

Starter motor/Poly belt/Parasitic drain
If the boot is open, then the car will not shut down, and so any readings you take will be meaningless. As I said, car can take in excess of 30 mins to go to sleep. Use light insulated cables to set up fly leads off the battery, then close the boot lid. Measure current draw once car has been locked and left for 30 mins. My view is that you would be wise to now engage the services of a local mobile auto electrician, before something goes wrong.

Intermittent Notchy/Stiff Steering
The make of the battery may give a clue as to whether it is a replacement or not.

Alternator issue
When you bought this car in June 2024 ( when it was 5 years old), did you obtain a copy of its service history ( should be available from your nearest dealer)? Did you buy it from an Audi dealership, and did you purchase an extended warranty from the seller - which would account for your reference to a 7 year warranty on the alternator? Who told you there was a 7 year warranty on the alternator?
-
Intermittent Notchy/Stiff Steering
How old is the battery then Nick?

Starter motor/Poly belt/Parasitic drain
Good. Disconnecting the alternator has been recommended as a next stage. What is your logic for thinking it’s the leads if the parasitic drain drops when the alternator is disconnected ?

Agreed insurance valuation
Welcome Parmy, Is there something special about your 14 year old car that leads you to require Agreed Value on the policy? Is this your ‘daily driver’? Are you having a mileage restriction on the car?

Persistent issue with A/C
Many thanks, You should be OK with genuine Mahle. You will find there are a number of sellers linked to Autodoc. ‘Didn’t concern me that the shipping cost was £8’ You are not Welsh then! Just let us know when high shipping costs become something you can’t live with and we can suggest other places to try - if it helps. The no leaks found/ now leaking confuses, and I think you are wise to suggest rechecking the sensor fitting. Please let us know how you get on Xavier.

A6 Avant Ultra TDi wheel size change.
Blinking heck Colin, the detail is dribbling through like a dripping tap! As has been said, low profile (35) tyres will give you, and the car’s suspension, a hard ride/time. Are these 35 profile tyres XL or not? It’s now for the sake of asking again, but what was the profile on your 17 inch wheels, and were they XL or not?

Persistent issue with A/C
Welcome Xavier, Before moving on, what brand of sensor did you buy from Autodoc? Regards, Gareth. p.s. Any particular reason for buying from Autodoc with their delivery charges?

Intermittent Notchy/Stiff Steering
Welcome Nick, What you can do:- Take the car on a 20 mile run and drive it straight to Halfords (shop) and get the battery efficiency checked. I would get the alternator output checked at the same time. You could get yourself a can of WD40 ( put your fingers in your ears Cliff! ) and get an assistant to do turn the steering wheel from left to right with the engine running. Put you head under the bonnet - take great care with moving parts, and look for the steering shaft turning. Give the joint a good WD 40ing where it goes into the steering rack. Please let us know how you get off on both fronts. Regards, Gareth.
