Registering singapore imported audi A4
Why are you asking -5 years on? This is your first post, and you wade in with a question relating to an aged thread, without so much as an explanation why. It has been said that we are a friendly and helpful bunch on here, and I believe we are, but would you mind retracing your footsteps back to the last bus stop and give us a bit of background and an introduction. Many thanks, Gareth.

2009 Audi A4 Suspension Issue – Bought from Dealer
Thanks Mark, If it were mine:- (1) I would not return it to the same MOT station - they are highly likely to pass it again - perhaps with a backside- covering advisory. As said, I would chose a random local MOT station. (2) Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but would I have put my faith in the car’s total condition being assessed via a seller-chosen MOT and the seller’s word? No ( in caps). (3). Such MOT issues are drawn to the attention of VOSA and not DVLA. As an aside, I go back many decades, at the time I was selling a MK2 Cortina Estate. A potential buyer ( without having seen the car) arranged for an AA inspection. They came up with about half a dozen trivial conclusions on what was a nice vehicle, and understandably, he did not buy it - but someone else did shortly after. The point I make is that paid-for inspections can be a backside covering assessment, to prevent any ( in caps) come backs. Might be worth keeping this in mind, and the affair may turn out to be a storm in a tea cup. We can only offer advice to follow on the ‘if it were mine’ principle, and it’s obviously up to the poster to chose whether to follow it or reject it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do Mark, but please keep us up to date on progress. Kind regards, Gareth.

2009 Audi A4 Suspension Issue – Bought from Dealer
Thanks Mark, Why return the car to the original MOT station, rather than another (independent) one? Was the ‘independent inspection company’ assessment of the car carried out before you bought it or after? If after - why not before - it would have been far more meaningful. ‘Escalating to matter to DVLA’ why them, and what will be your discontent with them?

Audi New Model A5/S5 Avant Experience
Many thanks indeed Andrew. It’s great that you have been prepared to share your experiences for the benefit of others. Oh, of course welcome, and please keep in touch. Many thanks and kind regards, Gareth.

Gearbox service
That does indeed sound ouch to me John. £800 for oil and kit surprises. Does anyone else on here have experience of cost of this? Kind regards, Gareth.

B9 Battery voltage
Does indeed now sound like an alternator issue. Beware of replacement aftermarket alternators - as opposed to getting yours repaired. Kind regards, Gareth.

MOT and new battery advisory
Yes Alan.

Left over screw!
I think this might be a difficult one to answer Andrew, but let’s live in hope. Too late now, but my procedure is to use a series of envelopes and mark them with the appropriate fixing locations. I’ve seen plenty of mechanics just throwing them into a pile on the bulkhead or similar. That is not for me, since I’m not too clever in remembering exactly what has come from where. Kind regards, Gareth.

B9 Battery voltage
Thanks Dave, but I don’t do pretty sures, we need to deal only in confirmed fact on here, otherwise they are assumptions. Kind regards, Gareth.

Gearbox service
This is not unique to Audi John, but I think it’s fair to say that the consensus of opinion is don’t treat it as if it never needs servicing. If you do, it could be at your peril. Where does the £1000 figure come from, and have you sought alternative quotes from other independents? Kind regards, Gareth.

B9 Battery voltage
Martin, could you please clarify your ‘engine on’. Thanks, Gareth.

A8 Rear seat headrests removal?
Hello John, It wouldn’t surprise me that these are considered to be safety features, and as such should not be removed in consideration of their designed purpose. Kind regards, Gareth.

B9 Battery voltage
Hell Martin, Are you talking the 12.9v with the engine running? ‘Engine on’ is rather ambiguous. If it were mine, I would first take the car to an Halfords store and get the battery efficiency checked there. Also ask them to check the alternator output at the same time. I wouldn’t take it to a local garage and get ‘diagnostics’ carried out. At best they are likely to inform you the battery is duff and probably fit a ‘best deal for them at their motorfactors’. If Halfords declares the battery and/or alternator to be defective, please come back to us before committing to purchase any part or repair. Kind regards, Gareth.

Oil level after service
David, Sorry to be pedantic, but when you say ‘trade sale’ do you mean you bought it from a car sales dealer, or you bought it on a trade sale basis - I.e. with all faults, whether disclosed or undisclosed at the time of sale?
-
Oil level after service
It could just be me, but I wasn’t aware that this was a just-purchased vehicle, but more a just- serviced ( in ownership) one.
-
Oil level after service
Thanks David, not so much a refund, but to arrange with whoever serviced the car to sort the issue out. Can we take it there wasn’t this issue with it before it was serviced? Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. You need to ensure you top up p/ recheck the oil before taking it back.
