buying 2012 A5 sportback tecknik anything to look out for? help with error code
We pride ourselves on being a friendly and approachable club :) sorry you didn't get a response from other clubs. But to be fair it can be tricky getting thenaudi community to communicate and engage with one another. However I feel on here we all are reading off the same page and are respectful and helpful towards one another :) I'm glad you've had a positive experience on here even if the outcome has prevented you from getting an a5. Btw did you see the a5 on eBay at the minute with the awesome body kit? It's a white 2.0tdi with high miles and has an s5 badge on the back? It did look lovely :) cheers steve

A4 CABRIO 2.0 TFSI 2007 B7
I would say 19" wheels would be maximum on the a4 without modifying the arches. You just need to be careful of the width of the wheel. As the wheel can catch on the arches or suspension components. You may need spacers to make different wheels fit properly. The spacers go between the hub and the wheel. Also make sure the wheel has the same stud pattern as yours (not just 5 but the width of the studs and space between each stud are the same. If that makes sense. Oh and make sure the centre hole is the same size. I think you'd be better with 18" wheels as this should cause you less of a headache for fitting as Audi would have fitted 18" wheels as standard in some cases. 19" was for the rs4, s4, s6, rs6 I believe. Hope iv helped cheers Steve :)

Retrofit steering wheel
I would say easily anything a4 or a6 (obviously) related. Possible a3 but not sure. One thing to bare in mind is that it might not be a case of the steering wheel not fitting but more a case of the airbag connections being different and not compatible if that makes sense. Cheers steve

Hi James, yes the steering wheel should be possible. You see it done a lot in the Audi and other vag tuning mags :) I'm unsure about the gear knob though. Cheers steve

buying 2012 A5 sportback tecknik anything to look out for? help with error code
That's cool. The thing with seats is that you still get the vag build quality without the premium of paying for the badge of an Audi or Volkswagen. The government are thinking of bringing those rules in to effect with regard checking the functionality of the dpf in the MOT. Why don't you look at other Audi models? I always wanted an a6 c6 :) cheers steve

buying 2012 A5 sportback tecknik anything to look out for? help with error code
Glad I could help :) sorry if iv put you off the brand :/ to be fair the old 1.9tdi and 2.5tdi were awesome and I don't think they'll be beaten on reliability. As I say if you give them a good run once a week you'll be fine. I personally feel the vag 3.0tdi is better than the 2.0tdi but its personal preference. For me it's all about the service history. If it looks well maintained in the history you should be fine :) to be fair the a5 does drive beautifully :) it's just better I arm you with info then you going in and buying one blind. and with regard to the engines it's not really Audis fault they've had to fit dpf and egr to the engines. We can thank politicians for that! For the emissions rules and regulations. cheers steve

buying 2012 A5 sportback tecknik anything to look out for? help with error code
On the whole yes. But there may be slight variations depending on build year etc. Your best bet would be to speak to Audi to see what it's had done. As they keep it on record.

That is true. But it's a trade off. I.e. Diesel=better fuel economy but risk of egr or dpf failure where as petrol=less fuel economy but no risk if egr or dpf failure. I agree though the oil consumption can be a concern. But to be fair my dad has had a 2013 1.6tdi a3 and now has a 2016 Passat 2.0tdi both of which use oil. This came as a surprise as the a6 I'm using which is my dads old car doesn't use any oil (touch wood!) despite covering over 323,000 miles. I don't know about the secret menu but when the car is getting to approx 75% full it will come up with a warning light on the dash. Cheers steve

Hmm, I think tuners should be able to remap it to how it was from the factory. In terms of the emissions update. It will depend if the car your looking at just had the software update or had to have the edition physical parts added such as the dampers and reducers. If it's had these then they would need removing also. The invoice should tell you what it's had done for the emissions update. Vag won't put it back to how it was as it could be seen as them still trying to cheat Emissions if that makes sense. Cheers steve

Iv worked both in vehicle sales and Volkswagen service department and I would advise you to buy a petrol for the type of driving your doing. The reason I say that is because the Diesel engine won't get up to a decent operating temperature. This means that the dpf cannot burn off the particulates and the dpf will just build up with carbon/soot. Once the dpf gets full it will break and at which point your eml light will come on and you'd loose power. If you do buy a diesel then you need to give it a good run on a motorway to allow the vehicle to do a regeneration on the dpf. The regeneration basically clears out the particulates out of the dpf. Cheers steve
