  8. No idea on your financial set up. Iโ€™ve always bought my cars, so not constrained by PCP or hire purchase deals. I understand about the final balloon payment though. Often cars on finance tend to be 3-4 years old and have GFV (guaranteed future value). Stay within limited mileage, and hand back in good condition, etc. Just looked at the price of a new petrol A3 Sportback. You can easily pay ยฃ35k and it has halogen rear lights. Itโ€™s 2026! At the end of the day, itโ€™s your money. Keep on top of servicing and oil changes and it should do you a good few years.

  10. Any update for us Wayne?
  11. There is something I don't understand here. Why, if you bought it three years ago, are you now having to pay another ยฃ13000?

  13. Hi, first time poster here, Iโ€™m trying to add a picture but Iโ€™m not sure now to. Before I start, I absolutely love this car, itโ€™s my second and I was down at Audi every other week sitting in once before I was able to afford one. It is due to go back to Audi next month and I have a ยฃ13 000 payment to make if I want keep it. For a car of this quality and spec in this current market it is a bargain. It has only done 50 000 miles since new and Iโ€™m the second owner (2019 reg). It has all the upgrades from Quattro and Bang & Olufsen sound system to panoramic sun roof, virtual cockpit & heated seats. Only an engine short of an S3 I absolutely love it, so enough said and decision made for some. Itโ€™s the perfect mix of efficiency, comfort and performance. Itโ€™s my second 8V and I regretted letting my first one go. I am very bias to say I donโ€™t think Audi will make another car like it, the exterior but especially the interior it has. I still enjoy looking at it and find myself in awe sometimes looking at it from different angles. My mechanic believes they are very very good and reliable cars if looked after properly, he said the engine has a history of very little issues. I am by no means a car enthusiast, I like my cars, I know a little about them but thatโ€™s as far as it goes. Iโ€™ve, touch wood, had absolutely no issues with this or my previous model. If I keep it, it will in total have cost me ยฃ33 000 by 2029, when it will be 10 years old. It was for sale for ยฃ26 000 when I bought it in 2023. Has anyone in here had any dealings with similar car or engine? Should I/could I keep this and run it into the ground?

  17. Managed to get the original pump working for long enough to test the pressure. It was 3 bar
  18. An increase of 25bhp would make a big difference - that's a 33% increase after all. Best place to go for that is Vince at Stealth Racing.
  19. 2003 Audi A4 1.8T Sport Petrol, Automatic Lightning Silver 115,700 miles FSH Black leather interior. Water pump and belt changed 3 years ago. My father had the car before me for a looong time. Collection from Reading, Berkshire. MOT ran out in January, been sitting on my drive and gets started and moved around frequently. TAX to November (at the moment) 1) dent in drivers wing, I drove into a low bollard and forgot it was there! 2) window regulators need replacing front and back. Passenger door is half stripped already. I was going to do it then ran out of time and eagerness. 3) Brakes all around were an advisory on last MOT. 4) EPC and engine management light on dashboard. However the engine is solid!!! Will upload photos when I can. ยฃ750 collection. Thanks.

  21. Onboard Sat Nav is not reliable or functional. Especially the speed limits are anything but correct. Do not use them at all. No issues ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿพ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿพ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿพso far with Apple car play
  22. Hi, Had my Q6 Edition 1 Quattro for a year now and have only recently had a couple of significant issues i.e issues that did not resolve by turning the car off and on again! Fault 1 was a failed clip on the plastic trim above the rear passenger side door. The trim has now been replaced under warranty, but I got charged ยฃ40 for the courtesy car by the Audi dealer for insurance! Never had this before where the issue is a manufacturing defect that has caused me the inconvenience of having to get it repaired, Audi should really pay for this. Fault 2; the day before going in to get the trim replaced, I could not authenticate on the MMI and my phone would not connect. Android auto connection has been hit and missed for couple of weeks, which may be related. The dealer diagnosed the fault which requires a replacement of a control unit that connects the car to Audi services including MyAudi app. The part is on back order, and I've been told it could take a couple of weeks to arrive. I've been told the car is safe to drive and I will be able to charge it, but I'm having to configure settings everytime I use the car, which is an inconvenience. Sat nav and other features like traffic signal recognition also do not work right now. These feel relatively minor to other issues people have/are experiencing, but it does bring into question Audi reliability.
  23. Now you tell us! No wonder the engine is a wreck.
  24. Hi that would do it, the remap has possibly done the damage as the pistons on these EA111 engines have a weak point insomuch as increased boost pressure and fuelling cause the ring grooves to fail and bits fall off of the castings where the rings locate which is probably why you have compression failure, having spoken to my garage they reckon timing chain tensioners can fail anywhere between 40k-60k which probably explains why in a short time they phased this engine out and bought in an upgraded belt driven engine. Steve.
  25. Hi I think you need an auto electrician to sort this one out but I have a sneaking suspicion the comfort control modules have possibly been fried as they don't like water or being shorted to earth, my advice is tell the mechanic he has to pay for the fix. Steve.
  26. Stage 1 about 3 years ago. Most other improvements are wheels, Interior leather, S/wheel & brakes.
  27. Hi you can't just swap the airbag module as the steering wheel originally fitted is completely different, an auto electrician could probably sort the wiring but the new wheel would need coding in and thats if you don't need another control module. Steve.
  28. Hi if its failed a sniff test its academic the gasket is leaking, I personally would do the same as the first garage if you take in to account that the head will most likely need a skim to correct any surface defects, then the valve seats would need to be lapped in, the timing chain is worth doing as even at 60k its probably stretched and the guides will be worn, factor in possible bore wear and you have the potential for a catastrophic wallet failure, from memory these engines were not good from new and if driven hard don't generally take to much action, you also mentioned improvements, one of them was not mapping was it? Steve.
  29. Yes oil pressure, & it's a timing chain not belt. Happy with the pump & belt, not the unnecessary chain.
  30. So changed oil and filter just now. Sump is bone dry. No loss of revs removing oil filler cap with engine running. No engine management lights Scanned with VCDS nothing untoward there (couple of none related faults) No smoke from exhaust Ive manged to source an OEM valve which should be here within a few days as apposed to the 10 days from Audi UK Watch this space as they say .
  31. leave as is. Is an extra 25bhp going to make much difference anyway?. Future classic for sure.
  32. I suspect the sensors for the window travel are faulty, but I really don't know anything about them. A diagnostic code reader should be able to pinpoint the problem.
  33. Richard. Are you really referring to low coolant pressure warning? I suspect you mean low oil pressure. The 1.4 TFSI engines of that era were notorious for their skinny piston rings causing dramatic losses of oil which would explain the low compression readings and failed sniff test. The only realistic solution is installation of redesigned pistons and rings at great expense. Whether the coolant loss is related I can not say. Your first garage was right to suggest renewing belts and water pump at the same time because they would be due in 10000 miles and would need another engine strip down to install them, so it is cheaper to have the lot done at the same time. In its present condition I doubt that the car is worth more than ยฃ1000. Do you love it enough to spend several thousand pounds on it?
  34. WOM Automotive is most definitely the go-to place for anything A2. I sold mine earlier this year after 20 years, on 308,500 miles, to a fellow A2 enthusiast, as I needed an automatic. Hopefully he'll take it on for some years yet. I expect you already know the main A2 forum on www.a2oc.net lots of good info there.
  35. Sorry thatโ€™s not working eitherโ€ฆ. Very strange. Do I try and get someone to check the computer? Or should I try and check the control units on the drivers side door??
