2010 A3 Sportsback

Featured Replies

Hi new here, so have a 2010 Sportsback diesel. Issue with the passenger door only opens from the inside no idea what's wrong? Also message appears showing stop start system faulty. Any ideas suggestions welcome please.

Thanks

Hello Irfan,

Sorry, can’t help with the door opening issue since it’s reasonable to expect it could be a result of a variety of possible causes, and may need hands-on inspection, by say a trusted independent.

Re. The inoperative stop/start system - Do you know how old the battery is? A below par battery is very often the suspect here, and would need to be tested - often on specialist equipment - to confirm or eliminate it as the culprit. Regarding stop/start failure, you can no longer eliminate the battery as the problem even if it starts the car fairly well, since let’s say, the cold cranking efficiency may be slightly below acceptable limits.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hey Gareth thanks for the info. I only bought the car last week from a local garage. So just spoke to them. Finger's cross they can fix it.

Cheers

Irfan

Hello Irfan,

If the battery is found to be sub standard, then you need to be aware that they are likely to replace it with the cheapest correct spec one they can get from the local motor factors.

If it were mine, I would be keeping in mind the advantages of adding some money and getting a respectable brand one such as Varta or Bosch with at least a 4 year warranty.

Of course, they may just charge up the battery and it might be OK for a week or so!

Kind regards,

Gareth.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was new to the A3 foibles when I bought a 2008 for my daughter in June. I soon found there are commonly found faults in the door locks themselves and with breaks in the wiring where it goes across the door pillar gap in that rubber boot.

To be honest it was a bit of a devil to resolve with a new drivers door loom needed plus door locks from a breakers.

You also need diagnostics that will flag up where the issue lies. My fault was slightly different to yours but they can play up in a variety of ways.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. The car as we speak is with the garage who i brought it off. As its been only 3 weeks since i brought it. They are going to put a new latch in lets see if this resolves it. At the same time they are putting a new sensor for the stop start function. As its still under warranty. Forgot to say last few days car is loosing power it becomes idle at 20mph in 2nd gear. So they are looking at that too. Just glad car had warranty.

Thanks
