Ok, so that's not exactly true, it will open with the switch in the car or if you use the button on the boot, but it just won't ppen when you press the key button, any thoughts?

I'd recommend a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up. It could be an issue with the key and the easiest way to check is to try and activate the boot with the spare key. Alternatively it could be the actuator in the boot mechanism. 

all sorted, removed the actuators, cleaned and greased and good as new 😁

i'm glad it's sorted, but confused how cleaning the actuator sorted the boot not opening with the key? 😄 

Problem with A6 21 auto boot opening.  Can hear the release trying /clicking ,  but not releasing or opening .
