No spare tyre

Featured Replies

Hello,

I got my Approved used A3 last week. It is a 2021 A3 Sportback 30 TFSI.

I had a look in the boot today and there is no spare tyre but there is a space for it. I called up my dealership and they said that you only get a repair kit and no spare tyre. Is this true or should ask to have a tyre?

Welcome to the Audi Owners Club !

Good to have you onboard

Hello Bel,

Regrettably normally true, but check you at least have the compressor and an aerosol of tyre sealer all in a  black polystyrene type holder, shaped to fit in the spare wheel well.  If you haven’t, then you might consider buying ( or they pay for) a spare wheel ‘kit’.

I you don’t have the shaped holder and compressor etc. then it is possible the car originally came with a ‘proper’ spare wheel, but a previous owner has ‘forgotten’ to replace it in the well!
A requested copy of the build record should state whether it was originally supplied with a spare wheel.
Let us know how things progress.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Is there anything in the spare wheel well such as a battery?

I'd definitely recommend you try eBay. You might find one if you look under vw golf as the golf space saver will fit the A3 hub.

Hi. I’ve got a 2022 (8Y) A3 Sportback which came without a spare wheel.

I’ve just received a space saver I ordered from EBay which I think is from a 8V model but I’m pretty confident it’s the correct one. I haven’t sourced a jack yet; there’s a generic one in Halfords but I’m looking for a scissor jack from an A3 on eBay. There’s a few to choose from but I’m waiting for a bargain. I’ll update back here once I’ve done a test fit of the spare with the size and details if it works!

Glad you got sorted 🙂

As a follow-up to my earlier comment the wheel I got from eBay from an A3 8V does indeed fit my 2022 A3 8Y.

The wheel you need should have a fitting of 3.5 Jx16 ET25.5 (May look like 31/2…….) which should be stamped on the steel rim somewhere. It has a tyre size 125/70 R16. Don’t always believe what the sellers say it came off or what eBay thinks will fit your car! I think this space saver fits a lot of VAG cars but they charge more if they say it fits an A3 when it came from a Golf!

I already had a pack of tools (brace, cap remover, towing eye, torx and screwdriver rods etc) but found the full Audi pack on eBay too apparently from a 2021 A3. It’s L shaped styrofoam and sits in the near left corner round the space-saver as you look into the boot. It included all the other tools I had but critically a Jack which was niftilly sandwiched between the styrofoam.

Good luck!

Raising an old thread but spent some time on researching fitments so thought it might help . All mk7 appropriately sized parts fit as well as A3 8v parts. I recently bought an A3 35tfsi with 19" wheels. Bought on ebay a spare wheel 18" from a vw mk7 gti 2018 for £75, a jack set from vw mk7 for £45, a spare wheel well liner from an A3 8v for £35 and plastic bolt for £7.50. Could have got a spare wheel for less but of indeterminate age. Very pleased with the result and price😬20250424_154722.thumb.jpg.739ad1ab400bdb1d4cc34005994e2587.jpg

Hi. I’ve just bought a pre registered A3 Black edition (74 plate). There is a compressor and tyre puncture kit in the boot in a polystyrene holder on the bottom right hand side of the boot. I kept my previous A3’s space saver wheel (2018 plate) and it doesn’t fit because of the polystyrene foam insert. Is there an easy way to get this insert out as the tyre should fit if it was moved. There seems to be a plastic button like thing holding it to the boot but don’t want to wreck it if there’s a way of removing it without damage. Any help greatly appreciated

Had the same issue. Just give the polystyrene holder a firm pull and it will come out.

Thanks Joe. Just didn’t want to resort to brute force and ignorance and wreck the thing. Thanks for the info…much appreciated. 👍

Hi guys, I have a quick follow-up question to those who have a spare wheel in their Audi A3.

Currently I don't have a spare wheel but intend to buy one (125/80 R17). Do you know - if I put such wheel in the boot, is the boot floor going to be on the lower or upper level (lower level meaning that the boot capacity is larger)? I just don't want to buy a spare wheel and realise that I'll be forced to have a limited boot size...

Hi. When I fitted my spare wheel it dropped in underneath the boot floor, so there is no difference in the space available in the main boot. However, depending on the tyre and the fittings already fitted to the chassis underneath the floor you may get either more or less space for tools etc. my tools sit inside the spacesaver tyre which is handy. Hope that helps you out 👍
