Voltage stabiliser replacement

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if I can swap out a faulty Voltage Stabiliser with a used part? I read somewhere it had to be coded in but no further information.

Part No. 8K0959663D

Audi A6 C7 Avant 2.0 Diesel 2014

Any help would be appreciated.

HI Greg ,( just to ascertain that the part your referring is the  correct part for any advice )  .... As Parts are referred to with different descriptions , it's important that Part/ Module etc is established otherwise the information might not be correct. So , (1) is this the square black box " Module "  or (2) is it the regulator that fits on the Alternator ?

These are commonly referred to using descriptions  such as " Voltage Stabiliser , but is usually has the word "module "included, as there are no images of this .  However from the part number this would have to be read by ECU and so needs coding in

Hi, thanks for replying so quickly.

Yes it's the voltage stabiliser module, not the alternator variety. This has been confirmed by an audi technician.

Could a regular garage with VCDS be able to code it or will I have prepare myself for the cold finger(again)?

Thanks again.

ok , is this the   "Control Unit "? Because that is what this Part number refers to ?  so  a local garage will not usually have the auto electrical diagnostics for this, you will have to find an auto electrician that is conversant with this process so he can sync all the codes into ECU, as this module will effect so many functions of the vehicle. Anyway what prompted you to change it ? What was happening ? Jasonj

From my understanding it's the control unit.

My Cruise Control and Stop/Start function won't work consistently. Rarely works in fact. I have an OBDeleven, and the only faults are the voltage stabiliser and an Engine code:

U111200 - Function limitation due to implausible message

I brought the car in to a dealership a couple of months ago for service and a new battery. Paid extra for diagnostics to be done. They said that they fixed my Cruise Control & Stop/Start issues. They didn't. They wanted to do a few repairs which would have cost about £4500, which I got done locally for about £700. So I'm reluctant to go back.

They told me that my voltage stabiliser must have gotten water damaged in the boot. But never quoted me a price either which is never a good omen.

Mechanically the car runs fine. I just miss the cruise control. Thanks for the help Jason.

ok ,water ingress will damage the module . and will also damage the replacement .. so find out where the water is coming from, usually from a failed light surround gasket , use a garden hose to find it . and stop it from entering the vehicle   If you are buying a used module get one that's low mileage . Get it from a breaker of crashed cars as opposed to dismantlers using broken cars . try somewhere like proxyparts.com .. they are in the Netherlands. they test the modules and will send you a  PLUG AND PLAY unit compatible with your vehicle . send vin number vehicle reg etc. They will send you a tested unit that is plug and play.    If you fit the unit make sure you Disconnect The Battery first .

Wow. That's wonderful to hear. Thanks again. I honestly didn't expect this when I first posted.

So just one last quick question.

When you say that the part is plug and play, this means no coding required from any garage.

Thank you.

. If you buy from  a company that specialises in selling this used and tested  component .. like the company I mentioned .. They bench test  and make sure it will be compatible with your vehicle . So you can just plug it in a GO. " once you have disconnected the battery " and followed their instructions .

If on the other hand you opt to buy from someone selling a part from a scrapyard you could be buying anything . And so I have to point this out, so that you do not end up in a worse situation, as with these parts they will offer a refund . But that's not the point .  So Have a look at companies like the one I mentioned . And GET PLUG AND PLAY which means you will not have to code it . Jasonj

I will do as you say. Seeing as I'm trying to avoid going through Audi dealers, this seems like the best alternative. Not something to take shortcuts with scrapyards. I wasn't aware of a plug and play option.

I'd like thank you once again. It's great to get unbiased information.
