GRIDSERVE charging problem

My 2020 etron will no longer charge from the Gridserve 350kw chargers. On a trip last year I successfully charged on one of the Gridserve 350kw chargers at Woolley Edge northbound services on the M1 on my outward journey and again at a Gridserve 350kw charger at the Wetherby services on the A1M.  I recall the car adjusted the charge rate to about 130Kw.

I have just repeated the trip. I tried 3 chargers at Woolley Edge and 1 at Wetherby multiple times without success. The charger display reported error message 011. I did contact the help number who suggested a couple of things such as locking the car before starting the charge and supporting the charging cable. Nothing worked and the operator did comment that they sometimes see these problems with Audi and MG evs.

I contacted Gridserve by email and in their response they confirmed error 011 indicated a communication problem between car and charger which could be related to software compatibility. They recommended I contact Audi for advice.

Any one else experienced this issue.

I did manage to successfully charge at an Instavolt 120kw in Ripon and at an Applegreen 150kw charger at Woodall South.

Hi Martin.

Just been reading about this on the internet yesterday. Most of the problems the "experts" were saying were due to bad mobile phone and Wi Fi coverage.  I have only had one problem at Pease Pottage services on the A23. Luckily there are about 10 Gridserve charge stations there, so after trying couple I eventually got a charge.

HI Tony

I have contacted Audi digital services about this problem. They say that my Audi service partner will need to inspect the car.. we wait and see.

Regards

Audi Coventry run the diagnostics and found no faults.  So I went to Rugby services to try their 350kwh charger... and it charged perfectly. Then I realised that the charger cable was on the right and plugged easily into the DC charging port on the right (drivers) side of my etron as I had entered the bay nose first. I recall the chargers that had been problematic at Woolley Edge and Wetherby had cables on the left side and it was quite a stretch to drag them across the bonnet to plug in as they wanted to retract. So I surmise that was the issue i.e. the charging cable was not properly seated. Next time I will reverse in if I use these chargers.

Hi Martin

Glad you got it sorted. I have had trouble at charge stations remembering which side is which. You feel such a fool driving in, cable won't reach. Driving out again, turning round, try again. I do agree with you the plug has to be really seated in without any tension on the cable.

Happy Charging

Tony
