  • Hello, I have a 24 plate 1.5 tfsi sport Q2 and have the same or very nearly the same experience,I’ve owned the car 5 months and my wife and I have both had this while driving as you say approach

Anyone on here had a response from their dealer or Audi UK that they would like to share?

How’s everyone getting on with there faults, just a idea when reading thru your posts , if you turn start/stop off using the switch once you’ve started the car do you still get the same problems. The >N symbol usually indicates the car wants you to put it into neutral instead of sitting in gear with clutch pressed so the start stop can activate. Just wondered if turning the system off makes any difference to your problems

I began this thread on "cutting out" issues as a request for info on what seemed to be a continuing problem.  It's always been very infrequent and for whatever reason it's not happening now. Both Cardiff Audi and Audi UK say that as they can't see or replicate the issue there's nothing they can do.  I like the Q2.  It meets my needs in every way.  Style, room, performance and handling.

After a lifetime of working in consumer matters I know proof of faults is needed to pursue things.  I'm going to have to end my input here.   If anyone else is still experiencing issues and lacking proof of fault  then I suggest the thing to do is look for others in the same situation and use numbers of those affected to progress things.

My car has also not done this since I last reported it in November which I find a bit odd

Had the same issue and been in for diagnostics. Don't use start/stop any longer but had a near miss on a roundabout when the engine stopped. Audi say nothing wrong with car and that it will stop if the engine RPM falls below 775. Now had an even stranger explanation bearing in mid this is a manual car.

"The engine is designed to switch off while driving if you are coasting, running downhill or approaching a roundabout ect where the engine is not required. This is why the vehicles now have a 48 Volt system to provide power to the steering, brakes, air con ect while driving without engine power. The grey stop start symbol in the display is just telling you it has switched the engine off as it is not needed right now. It is perfectly normal."

Are they really saying that this car has a mind of its own?

That’s the same response I and others had.  To further matters you’ll need some evidence and lacking proof that it’s not acceptable best to gather details of others affected.  This is not a confidential medium.  My Q2 seems to be behaving itself now and I hope it stays that way.  It was always an infrequent and random event.   I often deactivate the stop/start system now by the way.

Is this only happening to manual gearbox cars?

Don’t know for sure but think so

We have thinking maybe change to an automatic Q2 in the hope that in it could not happen. Seems the software may be designed for auto not manual.

After a rather heated and insulting exchange with Audi customer service who now think these posts are not genuine apparently I have sold the car as personal safety is paramount. Having had a mechanic in the car when the fault occurred they now say we have to take it back yet again and if it does not happen they will not accept that it has a fault. Wriggle-Wriggle-Wriggle! Apparently, even if they see the fault and their tests show nothing then it has no fault. I reckon that falls under the heading of don't know how to fix it! All communications with the dealership now remain unanswered.

Ok.  It’s still happening then.  As I have said my Q2 35TFSI is ok and I’ve not experienced this problem for quite some time.  So what did I do?  In the first place turning the Stop/Start off on every journey. However this was probably just masking the issue as on one occasion it happened again when I forgot to turn it off.  Just afterwards I was preparing for a long journey and I wanted to upgrade the SatNav for a more up to date route plan.  After some thought I realised that the AudiConnect app could do this.  In fact I found FOUR updates on the app.  I downloaded all four and guess what, no more problems!
Obviously if VW/Audi have an update they must have recognised that there is, or was in my case, a problem.  If so they have kept quiet about it.  The way local and national Audi denied that there was a problem was/is inappropriate to say the least.
I’ll repeat I have had no problems for something like 8k miles or more. The Q2 version is now what I thought I was buying.  Hope this helps everyone else.

Got mine booked in under the roadside assist. The service adviser said they had about 4 complaints recently about this problem.

Has anyone managed to find a solution to this problem? I've asked the same question on the A3 forum as I am experiencing the random engine cut outs at slow speeds or coasting, with or without Auto Start/Stop engaged.

Is that explanation in the manual, or did you receive it verbally?

hi all,

I have been having similar problems with my new A3, see my posts on just answer and another persons post similar in follow up to mine showing others similar problems with A3.
my car has been back in the garage, they say no faults and they can’t replicate and are now stating that it is stalling and driver style.
i have driven an A3 for the past 9 years and never had driver style stalls. This car cuts out when I’m at a stop at lights and is just dead even before I put the clutch up to ,’stall’ and it cuts out when moving / coasting 30 mph+and does not start up when into gear. It’s also happened to my husband coming onto a rounderbout.
audi complaints and customer service involved and fault noted to the Audi garage in 30 days of new car but as they can’t replicate the fault they won’t accept a rejection of this car and now state its a stall.
I am at a loss, they say no faults and driver stall and I am now afraid to drive with it cutting out intermittently.

Hi Sharrie, did you ever make any progress with this?

Hello John,

Sharrie hasn’t returned to the forum for some 11 months, so it would be advisable to send her a PM.
This is the frequent issue we have whereby posters simply do not take a little time to update the forum on the outcome of their issues, and the threads remain open ended and of little use to future posters with a similar problem.
Perhaps you would update us on her response John.

Regards,

Gareth.

Hi all,

the Audi garage refused to accept anything wrong stating it was driver style and was a stall.
It was suggested we turn the stop start off, I do this every time I drive now and don’t have this problem. I have stalled car once and knew it was a stall. Not the same as the random cut outs at traffic lights or changing down.

Thanks for the update. I suspect I'm going to encounter the same response. We have been switching off the Auto Stop/Start over the last week, but the cut outs are still happening unfortunately. To say its a stall is a total joke, if you stall the car, the smptoms bear no resemblence to an engine cut out.

Agree and it’s the time it takes to re engage whatever the cause that is concerning. Up to and beyond a minute is a long time when you have no car response in the middle of a junction.
if it was a stall normally I would just clutch in  turn on and go but the car doesn’t seem connected at all so there’s no response from anything. for me it was a decision whether to fight Audi or just try to manage the issue and always put stop start off.
I won’t be buying an Audi next time.
good luck

Sharrie

I won't be buying another Audi either. Mine is going in for the issue to be investigated on the 20th of Nov, but given what everyone else is saying, I'm not hopeful of a positive outcome. If that's the case, I will request an escalation, and if all else fails, I'm seriously considering contacting WatchDog, as I consider this a serious safety issue. I'll update the thread after the investigation.

John.

It’s not just Audi,it’s any car with this engine in the VAG GROUP.
