Charging cable stopped working

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2022 A3 plug in hybrid. I have been charging with the provided cable to a 3 pin plug in the uk but the cable is now not working.  Has anyone else had this issue and what did you do about it?  Interested to know whether you leave it out because it only has an IP55 rating. Thanks.

Not wanting to highjack the thread, but have you checked the fuse in the plug - plugs and fuses used for these obviously take an abnormally high current?
If fuse tests OK, then test for continuity from the 3 pin plug end of the lead to the plug that plugs into the car.
If you don’t have a test meter, or are uncertain about how to use it, it’s much safer to nip the cable around to an electrician to test it for you.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Definitely the cable. I borrowed next doors and it then charged fine. I also changed the fuse and the plug but that didn’t seem to do it.

Do others leave the cables outside? Seems a bit of a faff to bring it in when it rains.

Thanks Russell,

Apologies, if I had known that I wouldn’t have made the suggestions I did.
So there is obviously some sort of discontinuity in your cable, and it will need to be replaced.

Leaving it exposed to the elements?
Doesn’t sound to be best practice. Any good reason for doing that, other than a bit of inconvenience?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Inconvenience mainly. Eg. At night, the common time to charge, it often rains. Just wondered what others do.

Yes but the box was resting on the ground when it broke, normally it is hanging up.  Don’t worry I have a call out with my Audi dealer. Thank you for your thoughts.
