USB stick to play music on the MMI?

Featured Replies

Hi All

Hopefully some one will already have tried and found the answer to this question.

We have recently bought a Q5 with Tech pack pro. This includes a B&O sound system.

We are having a bit of bother getting our I phones to stay connected so I wondered if a USB memory stick with music on could be a music source? ( We are also having a bit of bother getting connected to the UTR system, but that will be another post).

I believe I have read elsewhere that the system does allow for this and will play back FLAC files.

If so, what file system should be used when formatting the USB drive? Perhaps it doesn't matter?

Look forward to your replies and sorry if it has been asked before.

I have answered my own question, but thought providing the answer may save some one else looking to deeply.

The connection part was a "user error" (mine) not realising not to respond to the screen message on first entering the car with "continue", should have responded "select"... Ho hum.

As to the music source.

The system on our model (Q5 TFSI e 50) 2025 model does play music directly from a USB stick.

The file structure should be formatted "FAT32". I have music files stored as FLAC and Apple AAC, the FLAC files are both 16 bit and 24 bit, and up to 192khz. All play perfectly well.

To. a lot of people, the above might not one important, to me it is. Far easier to upload files to a USB stick than my I phone and then playing it through the I phone system.

Hope this might help others.

Hi Andy, Is there a shuffle option when playing music from the USB source? Getting sick of all the songs playing the same order?

Hi Gulio, I thought there was, though have never used that feature. Have just been and checked for you. No there isn't.

The options available are to just play albums in Alpha order, or tracks in Alpha order (does offer some basic sort of jumbling things up, or by music genre as well as by playlist.

Track listing or playlist may be the best option.

I know what you mean about the songs always in the same order, feels like when friends stay over just too long... Then again, with a card offering 125Gb, its a lot of friends.

If you are playing back via a phone with good internet connection, can I suggest you try Radio Paradise, always has a good selection on of varying types of music (and no !Removed! adverts).

Good luck

Andy

Hi Gulio, My 2024 Q5 does give me the option to shuffle music from a memory stick. I'll check it out later & let you know how.

Hi Martyn, I'll look forward to learning how as well. It does strike as a bit of an omission to not have it!

Andy

Thank you Andy & Martyn, look forward to your response Martyn.

Cheers

Hi Martyn, you are right! I have just found the option to turn on Shuffle.

I was looking in the main music settings to turn this on, but it actually appears only when you are playing a track. Once playing a song you will see the double arrow symbol to the left of the skip forward or back option. Pressing this, lights up in yellow, and turns shuffle on so music will play random tracks.

Much better

Thanks

Gulio

Gulio, glad you found it. Andy, please follow Gulio's notes. I also attach a photo of the illuminated 'button' IMG_4212[1].HEIC
