It has come to that time of year when I sit in my office at home for hours on end looking for the best deal to insure my E-Tron G.T. Dead line is June 28th, still waiting for Admiral's renewal quote, but the online figures are coming out at about £2700+. It is a good job I like the G.T. Especially as in March it will need to be taxed which will be £195 plus £415 luxury car tax. These insurance companies just don't like us older chaps. Who don't drive at excessive speed, and are not going to wrap it round the nearest lamp post.

Do t get me started. My wife's Jag xe is getting harder and harder to insure. Companies don't want to touch anything from the jaguar land rover group.

It's about time insurance companies were more heavily regulated

Blinking heck Tony,

For the overall cost of buying and running this, I would want slates on the roof, and a council tax bill!
I’m well qualified in the pensioner category, but the insurance on my prestige brand non - Audi is not that much more than what you are about to pay for your luxury car tax.
In case it helps, I have been insured with Darwin ( subsidiary of Churchill) for a couple of years. Worth a try?

Gareth.

Hi Gareth.

Just tried Darwin, answered all their questions. Result was.......... We are sorry, but we cannot offer you insurance on this occasion.  I am going to buy a Smart!  Not really.

Sorry to hear that Tony.
Buy a classic car at a fraction of your outlay and get free road tax, cheap insurance which includes an agreed value and breakdown cover. No ULEZ issues.
Ideal solution unless you do a lot of motorway driving.

Gareth.

Tony. There is a fellow associated with this forum who pops up ocassionally and offers insurance. Adrian Flux or something similar is the name. I know nothing of him.

I did think of a classic, but I'll wait until Admiral confirm my renewal cost.

Thanks Cliff, I tried Adrian Flux, another one that wouldn't cover me.

Dare I say Tony, you and I are of a certain age where insurance companies don’t wish to start insuring us, i.e. if you are currently insured with them then they will continue to do so - at a price! - but comparatively few want to stat to offer cover.

I think you are correct Gareth. What really upsets me is that when I thought things are jogging along nicely my wife became ill and unable to get about, hence the A6 Avant for her mobility scooter. Then unfortunately she passed away in 2022. I thought I would get myself a car completely for me, and now people are trying to take that away from me as well. Sorry went off on a tangent. I'll keep you in the loop.

Hi.

Did we not offer any kind of insurance premium or were we just un-competitive?

Dan.

Hi Dan. No, you just said that you were unable to offer me cover. I know that the problem is that I am 81 years old driving a high powered car. Also unfortunately I picked up a speeding ticket last month which was most annoying. I was taking my son and his wife to Gatwick at 03.40 in the morning and set a camera off in Selsdon. It clocked me at 34 mph!!! and I got a £100 fine and 3 points for that. I know that the insurance is going to expensive but I have a car which is my pride and joy. I have had it 2 years now and have only done 6100 miles so it is not as if I am chasing up and down motorways with it.
