New owner with queries!

Featured Replies

Hello,

Recently acquired an Audi A4 1.8T Convertible which for a 23 year old car seems in good all round order.

Have a couple of newbie queries which I hope someone can advise on?

1. Do both rear fog lights illuminate? There is wiring to both and bulbs are good. Only offside one illuminates…

2.The boot lock works with the key but the central locking from the key doesn’t release the boot. There is noise but the lock doesn’t open to clearly something amiss internally - Any ideas?

3. I see there is a fridge available in the glove bos? Has anyone retro itted this and if so is it fairly straight forward?

Thanks for any advice and look forward to any suggestions to help me

Best regards,

David👍

Welcome to the forum you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch 🙂

I think there's only one fog light. I'd check the wiring on the boot switch but the switch itself might be at fault.

You're best bet is finding a used fridge on eBay and ask the seller if they have all the wiring etc to go with it.

Thanks for that.

The offside rear fog light works fine. The nearside appearance to be wired and the bulb works. Maybe its just not meant to be?

There is a glove box plus fridge which I might well progress with…

Thanks for your reply

Best regards

David

Only one fog light will light uo in the rear. If both did it could be misunderstood as a brake light.

Thanks for your response and that makes sense I guess. I have had cars with twin rear fog lights in the past though.

Just a bit odd that all the wiring appears present along with the bulb holder?

Thanks again.

Best regards,

David

Hello,

Managed to find aa used glove box with fridge for £80 including a CD multi changer.

No wiring just take the old glove box out and find the cap from the Evaporator and remove the plug and fit the pipe. Then replace the glove box and connect the screw in pipe into the back of the glove box and hey presto I have a fridge and it works. You can regulate it as well.

Just a slight problem in that my car is grey and the replacement glove box was black. However you cant see it when closed and I swapped the lid over so all good.

Well worth it I think?

Best regards,

David👍

Hello,

Well after all that I have upgraded the A4 to an A5 3.0TDI Convertible. So I have removed the recently fitted fridge and restored the A4 back to normal.

Therefore the fridge/glove boxis surplus.

Any one fancy it for £50 delivered? CD player is removed.

Best regards,

David👍

Regarding the boot lock and having to use a key. Mine was the same but I think the previous owner had been using the key for sometime.

The day after I bought the car, I tried to unlock the boot with the key, it wouldn't open and the key was stuck in the lock. An auto locksmith managed to remove the key but the lock 'wafers' were broken and I needed to get a new lock from Ebay.

It is the solenoid which costs a few pounds that was faulty but to replace the lock and solenoid, the garage had to remove the rear number plate and cut a hole in the boot lid to release the boot to replace the lock and solenoid then re-weld the hole in the boot lid.

A cautionary tale for a job that should have been an hour and a few pounds but ended up a day and a couple of hundred pounds.

That is a horrible experience. there has to have een another way of getting into the boot to release the lock.

Hi Cliff, no the back seat is bolted in from the boot.
