Jacking up Car Help (Audi Avant S-Line)

Featured Replies

Hi, I wonder if someone or some person can help me? I'm going to renew the rear axle/carrier soon as it is rotten, but I was just wondering when jacking up the car, is there anyway I can jack it up without damaging the chassis? I used to own a Mk4 Golf Estate where I bought polyurethane rubber bungs from PowerFlex (VW also do their own) which I 'popped' into a hole in the four corners of the chassis. I can then use these to either jack the car up or use them for axle stands without damaging the chassis. Is there any way to do this on my Audi? I even used to jack the Golf up once when changing shock absorbers using the Tow Bar, but the Audi hasn't got a Tow Bar.

Use the sill jacking points, but get yourself a couple of rubber jack pads with deep enough slots. Whack in a couple of axle stands too for safety.

The Audi A4 B7 has on each side those plastic covers, they will crack when a jack is placed there.

The instruction booklet shows where the jack positions are at each corner.

The jacking points close to the wheel arches are the only reliable way to raise the car without damaging the chassis. Although a tow ball may be strong enough for the job the load is liable to bend the chassis a little.

In some cars it is also possible to jack under a few other places such as a strong cross member or very close to the outer end of the track rods, but you really need to know what you are doing, so I do not recommend it. In any case case jacking on the suspension would prevent removal of the axle.
