2018 SQ5 TFSI Reduce oil level

Featured Replies

Hi , I’ve had the car for a couple of years and love it , recently I had an engine warning “ reduce oil level “ . The car had been serviced 5 month before , I removed half a litre and there was a strong smell of fuel in the oil, the light went off and I ordered oil and a filter right away . When I changed the oil I took 8 litres out, I couldn’t believe it plus the half litre . Anyway I changed the oil and less than a fortnight later the warning is back on , I put in 7.3 litres off 0w-20 fully synthetic oil. I took out 750ml tonight and the oil level is still showing full 🙈
After a little research it could be down to short journeys but I’m not convinced, could be injector seals but honestly I don’t know .
has anybody else had a similar issue ?

Welcome Michael,

The car is suffering from oil dilution via. unburnt fuel, and may well be aggravated by short journeys.
Stevey Y on here will be your man to go into the detail for you.

To me, this demonstrates that the recommended scheduled intervals between oil changes is simply too long.

Regards,

Gareth.

Hi I would first have the injectors leak back tested as if they are clogged or firing to much heavy fuel vapour that would cause bore wash which dilutes the oil.

Steve.

So …… I ended taking it to my local garage( not many options in the western isles of Scotland) , they had a look but didn’t want to try and fix and suggested I take it to a dealer . I gave it an oil change and traded it to Audi , it was a 150 mile trip and the car drove like a dream. Sad to see it go and I now see that’s it’s for sale near London .
I got  25 plate A5 and so far so good , apart from a couple of warning lights 🙈

Please keep us posted on how you get on with the A5. Get it back to the dealer for the warning lights to be sorted.

Hi Steve , I did take it back to the dealer in Glasgow , they done an overnight software update and we picked it up the next day . Car was fine for a few days but then the warning light came back on but didn’t last long . It randomly comes on now and again . It’s a “ Drive system fault “ , it doesn’t affect the drive and usually goes off after a couple of minutes.
