Water Ingress after Suspension Arm Replacement

Featured Replies

Following replacement of both suspension arms by Audi I noticed a water leak the following day. Audi want to charge me £2200 to strip the car down and look for it.  Any advise on what it might be. I’m struggling with it never having water ingress problems before the work and wonder if it could be something not replaced during repair

It’s at the footwell near the centre console.

Hello Anne-Marie,

I cannot see any connection between suspension repairs and water ingress, unless they have knocked a hole in the bodywork.

Do you know what particular arms they have replaced, as there are more than one per side?

Your wallet, your call, but why on earth are you getting repairs to this 12 year old car carried out at a main dealer?

That really amounts to extravagance, and no other benefit.

Worth finding yourself a trusted independent or local garage to get this latest issue checked out - as Steve Q recommends.

Regards,

Gareth.

Thanks Cliff. You are right but the one time I took it to a “supposed” trusted local dealer he turned out to be a cowboy. I don’t know of any local garages that are trustworthy.

open to suggestions, I am based in Ayr

Can anyone recommend an independent in Ayrshire for Ann Marie please?
Sorry, should have suggested you take the car to your MOT station and ask them to inspect the renewed links and any possible reason for water ingress.

Suspension and water leak won’t be linked, it will be coincidental. Does car have sunroof, if so check drain channels at the front. They exit above the door hinge. More likely is blocked plenum channels behind the bulkhead. The is where the wiper motor sits. There’s rubber grommets that are badly designed for a northern hemisphere climate, that eventually block. Decent torch, remove plastic windshield cowl to see.

Magnet thanks for the suggestions.
my sensible car has always been a Toyota RAV4 and the Audi my “Fun” car.  The Toyota garage is a small independent and as I’ve been going there for 30 years and bought new from them they have agreed to look at my car to see if they can identify where the water is coming from.

I will update this thread with any solution I find in case it is of use to anybody.
