Water Pump leaking.

Featured Replies

At my recent service I was advised that there was evidence of a coolant leak, most likely from the water pump. A quick google suggested that this was indeed a known issue with the water pump housing and that in some cases Audi had replaced this as a “warranty” repair. I had a similar situation with my previous Škoda Superb 272, the EA888 engine also had a notorious issue with the plastic water pump housing where it met the metal of the engine. This was repaired by Škoda as a known fault. So wondered if this was being dealt with the same by Audi. Any help / advice gratefully received.

I doubt you would get that repaired under warrantee in a six year old car. Fair wear and tear in my opinion, however there's no harm in asking.

Thanks for the input. Yeah I get that, but my Superb was over 6 years old when it got done. The key to my question is that if there’s a chance it’s a “known weak spot” re choice of materials used at time of manufacture, then this could the case. Anyway, I’ll wait to see if any owners have had the same and what their experience was.

No harm in asking your local dealer regarding warranty but the old rule of thumb was that cambelt and water pumps should be changed at the 5 year mark. Audi have done away with the time aspect now and base it barely on mileage which I think is daft as cambelts only have a certain life.

Yeah it feels like they make it up as they go along sometimes. I’m also pretty sure my engine is chain driven too? 🤣

I think they do! Apologies if missed the engine you have and yes that's chain driven.

If you've recently bought the car in the last 30 days from a dealer then they should fix it free of charge.
