Hello, gentlemen,

I am currently a student at university and I am doing my final year project on improving the design of Audi Quattro Typ85 connecting rod. To do so I must get an actual connecting rod for analysis. I was thinking to look for help here, therefore is there anyone that has a connecting rod from WR, MB, RR or KV engines? I can pay for a good one or just collect if it is defected or unwanted. Or maybe someone can suggest me where I should look for it? Another thing- does anybody knows which engine has the weakest connecting rod? Knowing that would be very advantageous for me as my project will try to prove that con-rod upgrade is a MUST when increasing engine performance for motorsport application. Any help very appreciated.

Regards,
Marius

Hello Marius,

Let me quickly say that I regret I cannot help you, but would like to let you know that I am sure a lot of us would have loved to have had such an opportunity to be involved.

Probably common sense, but have you tried the breakers yard search facilities, where you can simply request what you want and sit back and wait for the breakers to respond? Again I could be wrong, but these boys normally have a great knowledge bank on what engines give most problems and become most sought after. Could be worth a go. I think Partsfinder is one, but there are probably many more.

I genuinley wish you good luck with this project.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Welcome to the forum Marius, you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :)

I too cannot help by offering you a connecting rod but would agree with Gareth on trying local scrap yards. Or your other option would be to contact local Audi specialists (not Audi uk/main dealers) to see if they have any discarded ones :)

I use hm spares in Leicester. Might be worth you ringing them to see what they have. 0116 2666660. They are a friendly breakers yard and I've had various parts for various cars over the years.

Sounds like you have a great project and wish you all the best with it :)

Cheers

Steve

I succeeded to get one from one of the Audi fans. I go a connecting rod from KV engine. I think it should be the weakest of all of them since it comes from N/A engine. Thank you for your help! :)
