  1. I bought an RS 4 look-a-like grille last summer and eventually got around to fitting it this afternoon... The job involves removing the front bumper, which we did by following a useful YouTube guide: It was then a matter of fitting the new grille onto the bumper, after fitting the chrome four-ring Audi badge from the old grille. Unfortunately (but not unexpectedly, given the age of the car), several of the clips broke when coming off. I'll be sourcing a new badge. Turned out rather well, I think. I've got some sticky pads to remount the number plate somewhere. The new badge will just clip into place when I get it. If anyone is interested, the grille I bought was this one: Click Cheers, Mike 😎

  3. Welcome Cragh, and thanks for joining. If the temperature doesn’t reach normal, leave alone hardly moving, the you can put your money on a failed (open) thermostat. I would take note of Stephen’s comments, and probably entrust the job to an independent -unless you are very good with the spanners. Kind regards, Gareth.

  5. It just doesn’t feel strong on cranking but it’s been along time since I paid attention to a petrol engine, I currently have an electric vehicle .. but yes this is the reason I wanted this car, to test me,to rebuild if possibly and eventually get it too it’s former glory appreciate the support

  7. Hi Gareth The exact message was "Electrical System Fault, please contact the workshop". This message came up approximately one mile from my house. I called Audi Assist once I got home. An Audi technician called me and told me not to drive the car as it could go into limp mode or just stop altogether. They recovered the car on a recovery lorry. Audi have had the car for nearly 4 weeks now and have replaced the 48 volt unit. The car now needs a new alternator which is on back order from Germany with no lead time being given. I have lodged a complaint with Audi as this fault has been know since at least 2019. As this is a 2022 vehicle, I do not understand why Audi are selling cars with faulty parts and known issues. I am waiting on a resolution from Audi as I have lost confidence in my Q8 and really do not want it back. Jason

  8. I have a similar problem to PHB except on an Audi A6. While I was away last week a mechanic took a look at it and said it was a leak at the water pump, and he would advise that the water pump be replaced and as the car had 85000 miles on it, he would advise getting the timing belt done at the same time. Because I was only there for a day, he was not quoting for this job, but I will see about it this coming week and let you know what the price quoted was. In my car's case, I could see wetness at the bottom of the engine lying on the cover at the floor.

  9. Just a update it’s finally running like a dream again ended up being the ecu not sure why garage’s can’t fix problems these days but if your car has this problem before spending thousands replacing all the parts get the ecu checked out.

Item 1 : Called the water box for whatever reason, the two holes require plastic 'screws' which is part number 8K0819664 Item 2 : The splash panel requires push type retainers / rivets - Part number 4D0807300 Item 3 : Requires a pair of plastic pins - part number WHT001506A The adaptive cruise radar unit in the bumper needs a mounting repair kit as it is loose and not secure at the bottom, ordered, part number 4H0998561

  13. Had it fully checked out and it has been confirmed as the thermostat and water pump. I spoke to Audi UK head office and they said they are not aware of any issues with these parts or the extended warranty in the US and Canada, they look after the UK only!! I have had a few similar issues on this car and although it's a great car to drive I think it is going to be my last Audi.

  14. I love my Audi because of the outstanding build quality and feel of the drive. Absolutely amazing machines and something humans should be proud of creating. I also love German car manufacturers because of their unrivaled attention to detail and also because I'm a bit biased due to my heritage. I also grew up with Audis as my father was the biggest Audi fanatic you'd ever meet, too, so I have quite the loyalty to it.

  16. I found that a can of BG244 helped with the diesel motor in my last car. It ran a lot smoother after the treatment, so it must have shifted some carbon like it says on the tin. I didn't really look at the economy, but it must have improved if the injectors were less sooted up. My current motor is part-way through treatment with the petrol equivalent (BG44K) and seems to respond to the throttle better already. Another few things I did to improve my old diesel were to:- Clean the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor (very carefully or you break the sensor wires and pay for a new sensor) Clean the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve (very dirty job but well worth it) Clean the inlet manifold (another very dirty job, but again well worth the results) I should have also cleaned the inlet ports, but I was too afraid of dropping dislodged muck into the cylinders. With the age of your car, you might not have exhaust gas recirculation, so EGR and manifold cleaning would not be required. But if it is... Recirculating the exhaust gas is fair enough for petrol engines, where it is mostly gas, but for diesels it is bad news. Exhaust carries some unburned diesel fuel and some soot particles, which make an ideal mixture to gum up the entire inlet side of the engine. So some people find the air channel in the EGR, manifold and ports has been reduced to a mere fraction of its original size. This gives poor performance and awful economy and gets worse as the miles build up. Fuel treatment doesn't have a chance of shifting the quantities involved (hence it being a manual job), but does work on the bits you cannot reach, like the injectors & combustion chambers. There is something called Terraclean, where you can take your car to have the engine decoked. It might be worth a go?
