Sounds like it might be grinding but I can't think of what. Maybe the actual clutch itself isn't disengaging properly.

Cars are getting bigger these days, it's an undeniable fact and Audi's are not immune from the trend. Look at the originals of any Audi models of today and you'll find that they've really piled on the pounds. This is a tad bit of an issue at the moment because as I'm sure you're aware the world is starting to fill up with more and more people which means more and more motorists. And with more motorists comes less space on the roads but more importantly less space at the side of the road to park your car. It's a worrying problem and more to the point it begs the question, if cars keep getting bigger then aren't we going to run out of parallel parking spaces? Sadly this seems to be the case and the motoring press has cottoned on to the issue with mags like Autocar touting the brilliance of super-minis like the Citroen DS3 and Fiat 500. These cars have been heralded as the savior of both the environment and space. Their goodness cannot be contained in their little bodies so it oozes out of them in effervescent energy. Now with this going on Audi had to get in on the effervescence of the situation and they did with the A1. What it is, essentially, is a tumble dried A3. The shape is familiar and so is the interior. It's also pretty nippy in the corners and provides amusing performance in the straights. The A1 then can almost be described as a super mini future for Audi. What do you think about this topic?

Hi Bats. I've tried Googling the problem but sadly I haven't had much luck. So I'm going to have to take a guess. When I was a kid we had two cars that used to do it. It would always do it at about two minutes into the journey and apparently it was the engine reaching its optimum operating temperature or something on those lines. So far as I can tell it's nothing to worry about unless if somebody else here has a different theory. Glen.

You'd think they would have a bong or something but they don't. Quite UnAmerican, but in a way that's one reason to commend Audis. American cars have this habit of bonging at you for everything. You dropped some cheese in the footwell? There's a bong for that. But yeah, pain when it doesn't help you with something it ideally should. Glen.

Sorry my advice wasn't brilliant. Thing with following those sat navs instructions is that you have to keep more than half a brain awake so that it doesn't lead you into a ditch. Glen.

I would have thought you would have to do the sat nav equivalent of a software wipe so that you could update it from scratch so that you could fit a new satnav. Glen.

Most of those had traded in the BMW 3 Series's for it too. Hope you get on well with yours and it would be swell to see some pics of it :) Glen.

I think if you type your criteria into Autotrader you'll find yourself spoiled for choice of A4s with those specifications. Here's one that I found which raised an eyebrow as a good bet. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201302065212754/sort/default/usedcars/price-from/2000/maximum-mileage/up_to_80000_miles/price-to/5000/model/a4/make/audi/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/page/1/postcode/bh93az/radius/60?logcode=p I don't think you'll get many 170bhp models for that money but anything with 130bhp or above should hit 60mph in under 10 seconds and do top speeds that'll get you sent to prison ;) Of course you could buy a lower power model and then fit something like an aftermarket air kit to help release a couple more horsepowers. In any case the best advice I can give is the lower the mileage the better really and definitely check service history. Other than that shopping around and looking long and hard will yield the best results. Glen.

I would check the throttle sensor itself. It's a bit of an attachment to a cable that does what it says, senses how much pressure is going through the pedal. Thing is it's an electrical device which I think could develop glitches over time. From what I've seen on Google it would be an easy thing to fix. Certainly not impossible to reach but it is fiddly to be sure. All modern bulbs are exactly the same. Glen.

I would think that you can use it. I'm not sure how exactly as it looks aftermarket. The only real way to find out will be to have good ole fiddle and prod until you work it out. Glen.
