  1. Hi, no it should not be open at all I think the control box has gone and no amount of cleaning will cure it, the over boost is caused by to much EGR gas entering the system and gumming the turbine vanes.
  2. Hi Ann stick with the the part matched by the VIN, but also get the garage to check the lift pump in the fuel tank as that will throw up a code for the high pressure fuel pump as its not getting any diesel from the lift pump. Steve.
  3. Hi you can only deactivate the stop/start with VCDS/Vagcom diagnostic software, I strongly suspect that fog light activation is with the lights on pull the switch and then turn into the appropriate position as they won't work without the lights being on. Steve.

Hi could well be the battery, failure of that item can cause all sorts of erroneous faults and lights to come up the stop start being the most obvious clue, from experience low or inconsistent voltage supply causes can gateway problems as the module has insufficient voltage to transfer command to the can bus which transfers the commands, no its not easy but if its with a main dealer lord only knows, their speciality is teeth sucking and supposition as most of the engineers who have any real knowledge have left and started on their own which leaves only the fitters, if the car was mine I would start with the battery as when that is on its way out it can cause many problems. Hi it probably would work as when they develop the platform for a vehicle its the most expensive process on earth and the manufacturer runs the platform for a good few years to get the development costs back , the platforms are built with bolt holes and fixings to accommodate just about every variation they are likely to produce its like the gearbox on my A6 that has a bung over the end of the driveshaft for the version that would have been a quattro the bolt holes are present for transfer box but devoid of thread. Downside is you are probably going to deal with old second hand parts which may well need reconditioning, in essence you could well be getting into a bottomless money pit, my perspective is keep what you have got and enhance that as that will keep you busy just finding the parts, not trying to dampen your enthusiasm but some projects are best left alone or you could end up on Car SOS, my mate has just done the same with an Afasud full monty restoration £11000 and its been on car and classic forever and no one is interested at £25000. Hi Ann as long as you give the supplier the right VIN the one you get should fit as it will get them the correct part number as per your build specification, as for working I am still at it had a good job today and the passenger was a Citroen drivers door which didn't make a sound the whole thirty miles to the body repair shop,LOL. Hi sound like a corroded terminal on the electrical control module the data bus can't connect to the module to interrogate the module, try and find someone with VCDS/VAGCOM diagnostics as this will give the part number of the module and the long coding for the module so if you get another unit it can be coded to the car fairly easily, no need to go anywhere near a main dealer try and find a garage that does VAG vehicles Steve.

Hi Ann still here despite the worlds best efforts, try a company called Car parts in motion, they are on eBay and if you get their customer service number off the site ring them and give them your VIN NO, On your log book they will match you up with a good quality part at a competitive price, no good guessing which pump to fit as there are at least four options for that year, Happy New Year.   10. Hi good on you, space and tools, I have the tools but no four poster ramp which you need for the A6 as unlike your car it is a Mission and a half you should be fine. Steve.

Hi I see what you mean its all wired in on the electromechanical braking system, I am trying to get hold of my garage to get the number for the Audi moonlighting engineer they use but they are not open until Monday, I have a very strong interest in getting round this problem as my car is due for a master cylinder change and I don't want to get into the same situation, I am leaning more towards readaptation but feel it may be worth looking at the fuses, believe me as soon as I can get an honest informed opinion I will gladly pass you the information.   12. Hi alternatively take the connector off of the master cylinder and bridge the terminals and see if that works, I am trying to find out if the master cylinder needs re coding. Steve.

Hi there is another switch activated when the pedal is pushed down it is a large blue coil with a black top that bends at an angle when the pedal is depressed and it is attached to its own separate casting on the pedal I am pretty sure that is the make/break switch for the engine start system, they are a curse inherited from automatics and in the good old days of overhead mounted plunger switches you could bridge the terminals on the switch and it would allow you to start, I have the same problem with my clutch master cylinder and suspect I will have to change the other switch when I renew the cylinder. Hi good skills but I think you should get the car plugged in that will give you a definitive code for the part that is running to ground, possible broken cables where the door loom plugs meet the body or a control module failing, my guess is a plug connector somewhere is corroded as I doesn't seem to occur in drier weather which would suggest cold and damp getting in somewhere.   16. Hi LED bulbs will probably fail the MOT if its not a projector type head lamp as it distorts the reflector pattern, if the original bulbs are H7/H4 try Phillips diamond vision all version available on eBay . Steve.

Hi no it won't be the aircon if its not being used, try to obtain the help of an assistant and a couple of buckets of rain water, no good using a hose or tapster as this has a higher surface tension and won't creep, sit in the car with the doors shut and let them gently pour the water that side and see what happens, my guess is a blocked drainage channel under the front scuttle cover where it hides the wiper motor etc. Steve.

Hi yes the German cars are better built but you are still altering the damping geometry if you use lowered springs and thus you will get a bone shaking ride it won't matter how good the bushes are on the rest of the suspension, also be careful to check that KYB units work with lowered springs as you won't be the first person to discover that the shocks start leaking in record time because the piston travel ratio was never designed to work with lowered springs, thats why Bilstein was recommended as they work with both types of spring standard/lowered especially the B6 as the bump stops are in the body of the shock rather than up by the top mount.

Hi retrofitting seats even if a straight swap will require wiring alterations and coding in afterwards, sit on a hot water bottle its easier and cheaper, as for the motor its probably gone as its a lousy design as the washer feed runs through the spindle for the arm and because the spindle only moves left and right the seal for the spindle out and water floods the gearbox and causes it to seize, I replaced mine a couple of years ago and took the motor apart out of curiosity it was like a rust festival in there.   21. Hi go on eBay and try Mannol I have been using it in my cab and their 504/507 long life is about £25.00 for five litres and it has rave revues, they way I look at it if it will stand the pounding I give it with about 700-1000 miles a week with no downside it can't be bad. Steve.

Hi coilover suspension is a lot stiffer on the lowest setting so unless you want to spend a fortune on dental implants and suspension arms do as Steve suggested and go for Bilstein, B6 shocks with standard springs thats about as uprated as you need to go without murdering the ride/handling, coilovers are really for trackdays, you don't think the cars testing on the track at Wolfsburg was just for fun these cars have a really good set up which copes well with most road surfaces. Hi the clutches are almost exclusively manufactured by LUK, Sachs is now one of their sub divisions, have a look at the LUK website where they will list your vehicle but no prices, alternatively try Car Parts in Motion they are very helpful and if you ring them they can normally flog you a clutch at a competitive price. Steve.
  24. Yep the worlds a dangerous place, problem is one of the guys who is just up the road from me and is on this forum did not get most of the replies I sent through to him.
