  1. I’m confused Laurence, Yes, I know you are talking about a 2010 A3 Quattro, but you haven’t commented on whether you have/ intend to, carry out the suggested homework. Neither have you confirmed that your interest does not extend to non- Quattro.
  2. Possible roof rail ‘seal’ issue?
  3. Hello Laurence, Prior homework is king in your situation. Request copy of the service history before embarking on viewing it. Do a vehicle check on it. I’ve used VCheck to good avail. This will give you ownership history, auction activity etc. How long has the last owner owned it?Not sure if this check will apply to ROI -? Have you checked the MOT history etc.? Regards, Gareth. p.s. Do you really need a Quattro on a 15 year old car - more potential for issues?
  4. Thanks Bob, that’s why I suggested the OP seeks copy of what the main dealer’s intentions are. We need the OP to clarify if this is a genuine Audi backed warranty or an ‘aftermarket’ one. Personal opinion :- I wouldn’t be too impressed if my 3 year old vehicle was repaired with secondhand parts by a main dealer.
  5. Worth spraying each rubber bush/ joint with ATF fluid one at a time in the hope you will find the culprit. Are you able to gain an idea of which corner the noise is coming from? Regards, Gareth.
  6. Magnet replied to Deegs's topic in Audi A3 (8L) Forum
Yes, of course. Simply include all relevant information inc. some photos if possible and the individual prices. Regards, Gareth.
  7. Never heard of main dealers using secondhand parts. Have you actually seen that dictate in writing, and if not, have you requested written copy, or going to request it? Regards, Gareth.
  8. Welcome James and thanks for joining. The correct viscosity grade and specification should be listed in your owner’s handbook. Re. brand:- I stick with VAG’s own Quantum brand, and have done so through 178K miles on a petrol 1.6 A3. I don’t see any reason to deviate from that. Generally available via EBay sellers. Choose a reputable seller even though others might be slightly cheaper. In case it helps, I use Mann or Bosch filters. Can we take it the vehicle comes with service history? When was it last serviced? What will be your anticipated annual mileage? Regards, Gareth.
  9. You can try visiting an Audi dealer and asking for a build record print out. I wouldn’t attempt this by e-mail or over the phone. Please let us know how you get on. Alternative would be to post a photo on here, so other members who possibly have the same colour can help you out. Regards, Gareth.
  10. Hello Rory, Apologies if you have already tried these contacts, but:- Bolton Engineering Services seem to be SKF orientated. Much further afield - Allibaba actually list that number, at £12.50 ish!! If you haven’t tried Bolton, it might be worth asking if there are any bearings equivalents to 329082. Regards, Gareth.
  11. Thanks Josh, Wasn’t really talking about it being stationary at idle revs., but if you get the car up to its operating temperature and then rev it to say around 2.5K revs. while stationary, does it vibrate under those conditions?
  12. A3 manual or automatic?
  13. Same engine Padraic? 2K revs. at 70mph does seem rather high for a diesel. Manual or auto? No doubt other owners will share their views. Could any other members with a similar vehicle please respond to help Pasdraic?
  14. Magnet replied to james12345's topic in Audi A4 (B5) Forum
Hello James, ’…please encourage to persevere…..’. Very difficult James when you don’t respond!
  15. Hello Padraic, Does the answer lie with ‘smaller but more powerful engine …’? Let’s hope other owners will share their experience. Regards, Gareth.
  16. Did you find one via. the link suggested?
  17. Many thanks Chris - that’s obviously considerable. If you are absolutely sure there aren’t any leaks visible , externally, then you might consider HG issues, but I would carryout the following initial test:- Take the car for a run of at least 10 miles, then without switching the engine off, get an assistant to hold the revs. at a steady 2,000 rpm for 2 minutes while you observe the exhaust gasses. Report back. Regards, Gareth.
  18. Welcome Josh, If everything with the steering and wheel balance is correct, consider engine mountings. Having said that, the …’ under braking too…’ may point to sticking calipers or other brake issues. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. should have asked:- does this issue also occur when the the car is stationary and the engine revs. held steady above idling?
  19. Are you going to clean it first David? I guess you aren’t going to start in the middle and work out to the sides.
  20. How much coolant is it actually losing in say 200miles Chris?
  21. Any response for the forum David?
  22. Magnet replied to james12345's topic in Audi A4 (B5) Forum
Last call for update James. Really do hope you will take the time to reply.
  23. Hello Hugh, If you do a forum search for ‘Hose’ or ‘Power Steering Hose’, you should come up with a number of suggestions ranging from EBay, car breaker link sites through to commercial vehicle hydraulic specialists. Please let us know how you get on. Regards, Gareth.
  24. Welcome Liam, and many thanks for joining and for taking the time to read the post. Hopefully the forum can help you if and when you need it. Regards, Gareth.
  25. Look after yourself Nicola, and remain steadfast in achieving the result you wish for. Fingers crossed it will successfully sort itself out in the end, and Audi will treat you with the respect you deserve. Regards, Gareth.
