Hello Alun, If you ran the battery down just ‘playing with’ the electrics, then it’s quite likely the battery is well past its best, and no longer able to support a stop/start facility. Yes, I understand the battery will be c just 4 year old ( and now out of warranty), but this vehicle is likely to have been caught up in the Covid issue of lack of ‘chips’ and might well have been sitting around for months - bad news for batteries. If it were mine, I would drive it around to a Halfords store and get the battery efficiency checked, before doing anything else. With respect to your wallet - again if it were mine- I would not be getting a new one at Halfords - just come back to us with the outcome. If the battery is serviceable then we can move on. No problem Gary, but where does the now £150 figure come from - was £53 -? Agreed that a flexible pipe is indeed a pipe that flexes, but what pressure is this subjected to? That’s just one factor to consider. Regards, Gareth.

If bought from a dealer, simply return it for them to fix it. If bought privately, there is unlikely to be much chance of redress, unless the advert mentioned anything about its mechanical condition, which led you to believe it was serviceable. Returning it to the garage who repaired it for the previous owner? That garage may well wash their hands of it since you were not the person who contracted the work to be done - but worth a try. Any system which tells you the same tyre width and profile for a 17 inch wheel will be an acceptable combination to fit on a 16 inch wheel, then fit on your car, is incorrect, or you are interpreting it incorrectly.

1 year on Gary, are we still talking about the damaged hose?? I could be proved wrong, but I would be very surprised if anyone on here would have the been-there-done-that experience to be able to give you a meaningful answer. A couple or so possibilities:- Buy it and try it, on the basis that if the £53 part works and is adequate - great! If it doesn’t - £53 gambled and lost. 215/45/16 are certainly not a suitable substitute for your current 215/45/17 tyres. Who told you they were?

In addition :- Obtain copy of service history before ( in caps) viewing. Check the on-line DVLA Vehicle Check, noting when the last V5 was issued, to potentially give an idea of how long the last owners has owned it - short term ownership maybe due to dissatisfaction. Having satisfied that all things stack up, and all the homework has been carried out, pay £9.99 to obtain a VCheck report on the vehicle. This should indicate if the vehicle has been through auction, insurance loss etc. Finally, unless you are competent to assess the vehicle yourself, arrange a pre- purchase inspection at an independent close to the sales location. Who are you going to entrust with doing this Graham? The quality of parts used will be important, so ask what brand of springs will be used. If the answer is OEM standard then beware - there are some dodgy brands claiming this status. In case it helps, I’ve used Febi to good effect. Regards, Gareth.

I would think the auction houses should be able to give you an experience estimate, from which you can choose your reserve. Broken springs have now become a regular problem - both together?? Any incident with speed bumps etc.? Obviously the answer lies solely via. an inspection of the car, and I would suggest this is carried out without delay. Many thanks Nicholas, I think this warrants being entered into a specialist Classic car type auction to maximise its interest. Auction houses inc. H&H, Iconic,(seem to realise high prices), Brightwells etc. - probably a bit newish for Mathewsons. You could also try advertising it in Car and Classics, and I believe you can also do this on an auction basis. Back to Mathewsons - Sarah who used to work for them, now is part of Evoque Classics ( please check I have the correct name), and they also act as sales brokers and do the advertising for you, and the car stays with you.
