  1. Hello David, How was the battery tested to come to the conclusion that it was OK? Is the battery the original fitted to the car? Kind regards, Gareth.
  2. Thanks Hanees, Who tested the battery, and what parameters did they test? Kind regards, Gareth.
  3. Hello Simon, Sorry to hear of your issue, particularly since the replacement costs are likely to render that route as being uneconomical. I terms of deleting, I would first be taking experienced advice on this, and the potential MOT implications, before spending anything on that route. Let’s hope someone who has experienced views of been-there-done-that will be along to help, or if there is indeed experienced advice to just not go there. Kind regards, Gareth.
  4. Hello Kernower, Could you please complete your profile properly, then we should be able to assist. Kind regards, Gareth.
  5. Apologies for the now understandable confusion in the middle. JasonJ who was a contributor to this thread is no longer with us. Kind regards, Gareth.
  6. Thanks Larry, Saying it as I see it, even though it didn’t work for the original poster Dean, he hasn’t yet managed to get around to thanking you for trying to be helpful, so please accept the forum’s thanks pending this happening. Kind regards, Gareth.
  7. Hello Will, For mechanical parts, you can always send your registration number to Car Parts in Motion - down your neck of the woods. Always worth a try. Kind regards, Gareth.
  8. No need to delete the thread. Just leave it open, and let us know if you junk it. Kind regards, Gareth.
  9. Hello Dave, Did it go out of your ownership some 3 years ago? It seems to be doing a relatively high annual mileage since it left you, and although I share your wish to reunite the key and car, it will prove to be an almost impossible task, so I think you just as well now junk it ( some 3 years on-?) unless, by chance, someone may recognise the number operating in their locality. Always worth a try on here though for a couple of weeks. Kind regards, Gareth.
  10. The depreciation might surprise.
  11. Hello Jonathan, Welcome and thanks for joining. It will be very difficult to form a decision for you. If you are buying on price, then it could be argued you have done the right thing - until you see the new model, and have to accept the far more rapid depreciation on the older model you have just bought. How long do you intend to keep this model? Kind regards, Gareth.
  12. Thanks for now letting us know that you have sorted it Dean. Could you give more details of how you actually sorted it, so that it might help others in the future. I think Larry was trying to be helpful, so perhaps a thanks to him would be in order. Kind regards, Gareth.
  13. Thanks Blagoje, but what parts have you replaced on the clutch mechanism? Kind regards, Gareth.
  14. Hello Eric, Welcome and thanks for joining. 100K is not a great mileage these days, but 22 year old seals would need to be respected, and certainly inspected, before any decision is made to replace them or not. What wouldn’t be acceptable to me is the ‘refusal’ to change them bit. If it were mine, I would be finding another mechanic to entrust the job to. What make parts are you having fitted Eric, as a matter of interest? Kind regards, Gareth.
  15. Thanks for joining Will, and welcome. Is it generally service and replacement mechanical parts you are struggling with? Kind regards, Gareth.
  16. Sorry to hear of your issue Shaun. Can we take it the seller (if dealer) will be picking up the tab under the normal minimum warranty? Bought mid Feb.? Of course, you would have to advise them in writing about the issue, and get their sanction to get it repaired. Kind regards, Gareth.
  17. Welcome Lorraine, and thanks for joining. I think I have this right, but could you just confirm that when you partially remove the dip stick, you are conscious of pressure being blown passed the dipstick - I used to call it chuffing - and was the primary test for diesels ( in particular) for blowing passed the pistons, usually due to bore and/or piston ring wear. Does that principle still apply with the breather systems on the more modern engines ??? What service history does the car have, and even if it’s not blowing excessive smoke from the exhaust, have you had it long enough to judge its oil consumption? Kind regards, Gareth.
  18. Thanks again Simon. Sensing your understandable concerns, I would not buy this without an inspection by a local-to-them independent Audi specialist, if I was in your shoes. Kind regards, Gareth.
  19. Glad it’s worked out for you Peter, and thanks for sharing. Junking the tyre grunt sounds best place for it, but worth retaining the compressor. Thanks again Peter, Kind regards, Gareth.
  20. You are very welcome Simon. Re. ‘……….very well looked after…’. Has the seller sent you any images of its service record over the last 5 years of their ownership? Take it you have checked the on-line MOT history to gather more information on its past history since its first MOT in 2014-? Apologies, I cannot give you any background to the model itself, although members may well come up with this, to compliment what will be available to you on-line. Belts renewed at 65 to 70K. - 30 odd K ago. Do you know when this was Simon, to see where it stands within the ‘old guidelines’ on time related changes? Kind regards, Gareth.
  21. Hello Simon, Is this car being sold privately or by a dealer? If privately, it might be worthwhile getting a local-to-them independent to appraise the car before committing, unless you feel you are competent in carrying out your own inspection. Same would really apply via. a dealer sale, but you would have the benefit of some warranty with them. Whatever, a small investment in this pre- purchase may well prove to save in the longer term. Check brands and uniformity of tyre treads - important on these. Kind regards, Gareth.
  22. Any of this any help Ian, and what do you feel is now right for you? Kind regards, Gareth.
  23. Hello Richard, Welcome and thanks for joining. From a standpoint of brevity - check the wiring harness in the flexible section twixt A post and the door front edge. Favourite place for fractures. Kind regards, Gareth.
