Emission fail on MOT

Featured Replies

Hi, I have just bought an Audi A8 2002 2.8 Quattro and it has failed its mot on Emissions, its been stood for 2 years and has only done 100 miles since its last mot in 2017, prior to that it passed straight through the last 6 mot's without any problems, this is what it says on the fail certificate, any ideas where to start looking first.

Exhaust emissions Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits (7.3.D.3)

Hello John,

Was the car taken for the MOT with the remnants of 2 year old fuel in the tank, or did you pump out/drain the old fuel and add new?

Kind regards,

Gareth.

As above . Tank drain and clean, fuel filter change , also a long motorway drive with some fuel additive to burn out what is there ... carbon clean if needed

Well the car passed its mot ok, the problem was that the guy who tested it didn't get the engine hot and up to temperature, im picking it up this weekend from Reading and driving back to Leicester this week end on the motorway, so im hoping a 125 mile run will do it good, thanks for all your advice guys

Um??

Are MOT testers that daft as to not to ensure that  the car was up to temperature before failing it on emissions?

Maybe some are!

I suppose if they are daft enough to do that, they may just make a mistake on retest and plug the probe into the wrong car!

Might be worth confirming the MOT comes with an emissions print out - these sometime go missing.

Enjoy the car.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Glad it's passed the Mot :)

Forgot you were from Leicester John!

We'll have to have an Audi meet at some point :)

Cheers

Steve
